Rumours suggest there will be an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1160 too

GTX 1160 includes 'Turning Shaders' but no Raytracing (RT) cores are enabled.

Would this be instead of an RTX2050? I'm confused.

Not if it is as fast as the 2060 in normal gaming, but lack of ray tracing could allow a lower price point than the 2060. I presume from this there will be an 1150 as well at some point, but I can't see much point in a 2050.

There's still time for 3GB and 5GB variants with confusing shader and clock crippling.

So basically the chips that didn't pass the test for RT cores, have that part disabled and named TU116?
The more you live, less you die. More you play, more you die. Isn't it great.

I thought that RTX instead of GTX was supposed to distinguish between cards with and without RT support?

It still would...this new card is supposedly called the GTX1160 and has no rt support

Still hope for a 1170 with SLI support and a reasonable price then?

    No? Damn.

I really don't see the point in having raytracing on cards which are incapable of running it at gaming speed (ie anything under RTX 2080).

Probably, this is the way both sides (heck all chip makers) have done this for ages. It's not easy to keep funding R&D if you're tossing chips in the trash right and left just because of a small piece of it not working. Far better to call the failed chip something LOWER down the chain and make something on it.

That's not true now that the 50% improvement came (not from turning stuff down, as they noted) in just 3 weeks of working with BF5 team. I'm guessing games with RTX crap BUILT in them from the ground up (No game has to date, probably christmas 2019 if we're lucky for a few of these) will be MUCH faster at this job than a jerry rigged BF5 game that was NOT made for the tech but rather patched in. I'd be shocked if a game MADE for this stuff doesn't run faster. It's like running a game under WINE instead of native linux games right? Of course a game designed for linux is faster than WINE (or you failed as a programmer...LOL).

Also note the devs said they were confident they could wring much more out of the hardware now that it's properly utilized (they first had to report a bug, that was blocking full use of the hardware that NV wasn't aware of, which probably got the mass gains. I mean 50% is impressive for 3 weeks of optimizations for a game that isn't made for the tech. Everyone turns settings down for testing anyway (not me, I don't play until I can play maxed on my native res), so nobody would notice if you believe review sites...ROFL. That said, if you have the cash, I'd buy the tech if looking for a new card. Even turned down a bit, some of the effects are very nice if you're not willing to wait like me for full on maximum settings I don't play multiplayer so have no trouble waiting out a new card etc to get the job done. I couldn't care less about multiplayer servers being empty buy the time I buy a game. Kids/cheaters ruin everything Last time I was playing quake/unreal people were shooting their own team for nothing (stupid kids, just ruining the game, pop in get shot by your team- WTH? what is the point?). If you're not on a private server with ONLY your KNOWN friends, MP sucks IMHO (ok, not so humble, it sucks!). I always prefer SP (hence strat/rpg's my favs, good SP).

Lower end cards work at lower resolutions. Might still be useful to someone.

Re: Rumours suggest there will be an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1160 too

Nvidia is very quickly becoming another hated company in the gaming industry just like EA / Ubisoft. It's blindingly obvious that they try to create an impression of having a competitive range of products whilst it's obvious there is a monopoly on the market. Their range offer and prices are ridiculous. They became extremely greedy company that's run by the shareholders that care very little to none about the long term future of the company. Short term profit is all that counts...Rotten capitalism is all over gaming! Sad times.

Re: Rumours suggest there will be an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1160 too

Makes sense that they have two mid ranges .. it allows them to combat MAD now (rx580/590) then if navi is midrange , and good, they can lower their prices , till after awhile they can phase out the 1160 and 1150. Have nvidia actually improved their cuda cores? the new cards rumored to have significantly more cuda cores but NOT a corresponding increase in performance?
SoftBank banking their Haul (100% profit) has brought the share price down not the Ray tracing KrapFeist.
