Windows 10 has generally worked well for me but I have done a few reinstalls due to the amount of changes made since it was released. Due to the two major updates a year a reinstall is very quick and means that I only install what I am using.
Similar experience for prior versions of Windows, in that they required service packs to become more stable. Couldn't comment on 8 due to avoiding the "tablet" interface it launched with (also 7 was perfectly fine....). Vista, I never understood the hate on Vista, never really had issues with it and found it perfectly usable aside from Creative Soundblaster software refusing to work, so much like any version of Windows in that regard.
10 seems less stable than 7 was, mainly due to the new version releases being buggy for me. It's why I'm now determined to defer them as long as possible.

*cough*Windows ME*cough* I used that for years, it was fine once patched up but on some PCs wouldn't even install without crashing hard.
As for XP and Vista though, I'm not sure I could even boot a 32 bit OS on my 5 year old PC thanks to the 8GB graphics card. XP was getting pretty ropey when 1GB GPUs were becoming popular.

Even when you got it to install, it enjoyed showing bluescreens randomly. I found Windows NT to be more stable, slightly.

Long term Linux user here, so Windows was mainly to launch games from and as a user of NT from 3.5 to Windows 2000 I found it junk for gaming. Arguably ME was never as good as Windows 98se OSR2.5 (probably the pinnacle of Windows 16 bit versions) for those times when you wanted a proper DOS prompt, but once properly patched it was no less stable.
Re: Valve ends Windows XP and Vista Steam support
Windows 98 SE, Windows XP Service Pack 3, Windows 7 - all great Windows Operating Systems. I will be deeply saddened when Windows 7 support goes because Windows 10 is one big pile of steaming crap.
Re: Valve ends Windows XP and Vista Steam support
Big piles of steaming dodo think it's unfair to be associated with Windows 10. ;)
Windows 7 will be my last Microsoft OS, I simply don't like the looks of where the pied piper is taking us.

NT wasn't terrible for gaming, but it certainly had some kinks that needed to be addressed to get some games to work :juggle:

It ran some stuff, but that was the era of 32 bit DOS extender games like DooM that it didn't cope well with. I did try, I just gave up with it.
Re: Valve ends Windows XP and Vista Steam support
I hope Valve don't intend to remove Windows 7 support for a good while yet, as I'm unlikely to switch to anything else until I do a full PC upgrade, which could be a couple of years away depending on how my current PC holds up.

Well it has 12 months left of support from MS. Clock is ticking.
