Nvidia announces G-Sync Compatible experience logo

It tested 400 FreeSync monitors and 12 passed its certification, driver support next week.

Re: Nvidia announces G-Sync Compatible experience logo
Presumably, one of the validation steps is a check to see if there's a g-sync competitor monitor, given the plethora of TN displays on the list and lack of QHD IPS.

`it will be interesting to test out VRR on my 32-incher for the first time.`
looking forward to your post, mark.
Re: Nvidia announces G-Sync Compatible experience logo
i've got Asus MG278Q which supports FreeSync, looking forward to try it out and see the results as well.
Re: Nvidia announces G-Sync Compatible experience logo
Sounds like great news. I was close to buying a g-sync monitor but this announcement widens my options a little.
Re: Nvidia announces G-Sync Compatible experience logo
From their graph I'd imagine the bit of the majority of screens failed validation on is the "Default ON" requirement. Any Freesync screen can do all of that, but I'd imagine they don't default to it being enabled, Give it 2 years tops and they won't be making G-Sync monitors any more, you'll have to buy an old one and possibly pair it with an HD-DVD or Betamax player.

I read it as default = ON meaning if they pass validation then freeG-sync is enabled by default. Otherwise if they don't pass validation then you just have to enable it manually.

It also saves you on the g sync tax.
Re: Nvidia announces G-Sync Compatible experience logo
PCWorld has taken a look at various FreeSync capable monitors running VRR using GeForce GPUs (video):

Re: Nvidia announces G-Sync Compatible experience logo
Guess what I have not tried VRR yet :(

If NVIDIA intentionally hobbled their Freesync support, it would be another way for them to claim that G-Sync is still better.
Not that I'm suggesting that they have intentionally hobbled the support, but if they wanted to I could see that as being the reason.
So assuming it's not intentional of course, then I'd imagine that they still have some things to do before they get used to properly achieving driver support for it.

It does seem like its hobbled tbh. Also did you notice that when the presenter moved the mouse the flickering just went away at the end?

Being charitable it could be a driver issue, AMDs implementation wasn't perfect on day one either.
Re: Nvidia announces G-Sync Compatible experience logo
I notice that they said that NVIDIA claimed that the same issues would happen with an AMD card with the "non-validated" FreeSync monitors too, but they seemed to take that claim at face value rather than putting it to the test themselves.
Sure, they asked any viewers to let them know whether they encountered such issues or not, but it did still seem to come across as "You're better off sticking with G-Sync just to be safe."
I'd still suspect that NVIDIA just hasn't achieved proper driver support for FreeSync yet though, but don't want to admit to any issues on their side of things.

I can definitely tell them I've never encountered such issues.
Of course, I haven't tried, but nonetheless.. ;)
