Its 2019 why is it still trendy to have a massive box sitting on or below a desk. The only thing changed in 20 years is a the colour rgb and a side window

It isn't so much trendy as practical. If you want to put a load of components of varying shapes and sizes into one enclosure a box shape is the easiest and cheapest solution.

Because we can't fit everything we want into a tiny case... there's no way I'd fit everything I have in my pc in a smaller case, it's a tight fit as it is. If I was to upgrade to what I have been looking at there is no chance I'd get it to fit in the box, let alone cool it sufficiently.

This Raven is almost like the RV01 ? Can't see much change other than the price & pointless RBG.
Re: SilverStone shows off chassis, PSUs, and more at CES 2019
I'm not into SFF cases either ,probably would if I wanted a home theatre rig but as far as my PC goes I always go for a Midi case , prefer that for air flow and prefer ATX boards anyway for much the same reason and flexabity on parts. My PC always will sit under the desk out of the way as apart from the "On" button I don't touch it so this RGB craze would be a waste of time. Other than the monitor I have a printer to the side , have to load paper so it's to hand. Can't say I like the look of the front of that Raven case , prefer something more subtle and elegant , looks like a kiddies gaming type.

Because parts are still large and having them housed in the desk is expensive? That's the price of having something modular.
Some of us regularly crack open our cases and fiddle, mod, upgrade or expand things within, so accessibility, easy building, and the ability to tart it up some are required. I also clean mine out once a month, so having it to hand helps.

Try to contain your laughter, but I purchased a Silverstone FT02 case (new/old stock) just before xmas and built a brand new system inside. Blame tech Jesus’ love of the RV02 for this wacky decision. So yes, there is still a market for these kinds of cases.
