If they could lower the price tag too around $339. I would think about it. Anything over $500 is just too much for me. I would also wait for a custom cooler design. The problem is that most of the big AIB's don't care.

I was hoping but sadly no....Way to expensive, runs hotter, uses more power and is louder without convingly beating a GPU that is 2 years old in the GTX 1080Ti and that with a 14nm node which is twice the size of 7nm......Thats alone is a big loss in that a 2 year old 14nm GPU is still competing with a brand new 7nm GPU.
Furthermore even though the RTX 2080 is too expensive in my view at least Nvidia have an excuse in bringing new technology to the GPU market in RT and Tensor cores no matter that there is only one game to use this tech on....The point being that Nvidia have a generational lead especially in Ray Tracing and DLSS which will start making it's way into games at some point and boy when they shrink there die to 7nm next year it will only be even tougher for AMD though I wish NAVI all the very best as we do so desperatly need compitition...
After seeing the review and after having held back for a long time on upgrading my PC? The answer is no, I'd love to say yes but simply can't. Sure drivers mature over time, however considering the noise and power draw on this to keep up with the RTX 2080, I've just ordered an RTX 2080 for my new build.
I'd wait longer, but my PC is knackered after 8 years of solid service. :iloveyou:
Performance/cost - No
Performance/power - No
Thermals/Noise - No

Software stability - No
As much as everyone would like AMD to take the fight to nVidia, they've failed epicly.
Only thing they've kind of done well it parts were with retailers a day before review NDA was lifted.
If they had priced it 150-200 dollars cheaper it would have been great. But as it stands now the Radeon VII is a bigger joke than nvidia's RTX pricing. At least Nvidia included new dedicated hardware before jacking up the price even if they are asking to much for what RTX has to offer.
Similar in price to my 2080 with less features and performance. Not good enough. Plus, without a ray tracing implementation they're simply shooting themselves in the foot.
They way I see it according to Steam stats less than 2% of gamers pay on 4K. I don't think Nvidia and AMD are making those people the priority. Making visual fidelity improvements, like ray tracing, and have that tech become available at lower resolutions for the masses is more important.
I'd say the 64% of people who play at 1080p and with Ray Tracing is where the money is. AMD have missed this completely.
I have at 3440x1440 and my ultra ray tracing experience in BFV is glorious.
I'd argue that AMD are more interested in the cpu side of things than gfx right now. Executing that side well this year and then coming along with some decent gfx products next year is more important in the long run...
That being said the Radeon VII is a no brainer for them as it already exists almost in another product they produce. Doesn't matter really how many they sell as long as they are not completely left behind
It doesn't really matter how great these new cards are, the prices are stupid. I would rather go without an upgrade than pay that. Even the low end of the market is screwed up. £300 for bottom of the range? No thanks.
First comment is also the most accurate. There's a point where value doesn't matter. At that point you just want the best offering they've got. Features, value for money and futureproofing take last place.
I'm currently running an R9 290X (how many generations old is that now?) and I'm still waiting for either company to release a card which offers me a meaningful upgrade path for £200-£300. And I'd struggle to justify that sort of cost, let alone the £700-£1000 being asked for the top tier cards.
What I was really hoping for with this release from AMD was some competition, something to reign NVIDIA in a little and give us some meaningful alternatives. Maybe Navi or Intel's planned offering will help but I'm not holding my breath.
Early days. Price still high VS 2080. If it were £550 I might consider changing up my Vega64.. Till such times. Not for me. As loyal as I am to AMD, NVidia is the better option at the £650 price point.
it sucks. 2080 is it if you gotta have the best. kudos to Nvida for putting out great product, UNLIKE AMD who truly is the HYPE Kind right now. they are so lucky they have such a fanatical fan base, because iv seen 3 lengthy reviews now on the VII and I would NEVER buy one, as one reviewer said: "the Radeon VII, is like 2016 performance, at 2016 price"
This. But also, VII was mostly uncompetitive, and exactly what most people expected. For it to enter relevance IMO, the AIB partners need to factory undervolt it, factory overclock it, replace the cooling with a far more effective design, and drop the price. Which is essentially impossible for them right now.
I wonder if AMD's mentality really is "eh, Sapphire will fix it"
I think if this was a lot closer to £500 I would have pulled the trigger but I guess my R9 295X2 will have to live on for a bit longer yet.
I don't see how anyone could answer yes to the question. Trades blows with a 1080 ti for 2080 pricing? All whilst sounding like a jet engine taking off? No. I've said it before, if the 2080 had come out at £100 less this would never have been released, it's a repurposed M150 that failed to make the grade and now they're selling this R VII as a PR move.
