Re: EA disappointed with 7.3 million Battlefield V sales

I can see Apex Legends doing quite well for itself, I played a few rounds and whilst it isn't really my thing I can see the appeal. To me it feels a bit like overwatch mixed with Black Ops 4's battle royal mode, which considering it is free to play isn't a bad thing at all; I enjoyed it more than fortnite but not as much as PUBG in its early days. I am hopeful that firestorm will be the first battle royal game I can really get into if it is more grounded like PUBG but far less buggy and quicker to play.

I had a couple of rounds on Apex Legends last night - I'm of exactly the same opinion as you EC. Very impressed, very polished, runs well, looks great, mechanics feel spot on, excellent UI system (probably the best I've seen to be honest, really really great for ingame notifications to squad members) I like the special abilities. It's potentially a little too fast paced and twitchy for me, expect I'll stick with PUBG in the long run, but I'm defintely going to be giving it a few more goes. Easily beats Fortnite, I suspect we've reach 'peak' Fortnite and Apex Legends could take a good deal of it's player base given it's free.

Apex has EAC as anti cheat and most cheat makers already stating they won't be making cheat for Apex because of the high maintenance costs of EAC anti cheat.

DICE only has server side anti cheat and BF V is now overrun with wallhackers, you expect to have a good time in Firestorm you better hope DICE upgrades their anti cheat until then or else you will be owned.

Cheat makers are boosting that their actual cheat code has not been detected since BF3 since there is ONLY is server side anti cheat, so only reckless players has been banned and those that are a little bit careful has been cheating undisturbed for years in since BF3.

BF franchise is going under cuz of cheaters at the moment and meanwhile DICE blatantly lies that they investing heavy in anti cheat in BF V.

    https://youtu.be/rdpTvPWR1hk?t=867

DICE stand at the moment is if you can't prove people are cheating they are not a problem even though the owning you and setting the whole gameplay off balance.

Is Apex Legends pay to win or can you get weapons etc through playing?

You clearly are not familiar with the Battle Royal mechanics/gameplay.
    Short answer: it's not p2w.
Anyway, it's free, try it out...

Personally, I found that the loot distribution is very bad though ...

I know how it works my daughter plays fortnite and my son has black ops 4, I was asking a relatively simple question in relation to this game, being unable to download it right now means your statement of "trying it out" doesn't really help me out much.

If it's just cosmetics you can buy then I am interested

Its debatable. You cannot buy weapons etc so in that way it's not PTW... BUT you can buy characters (which otherwise take many hours to unlock) and at this point in the game's (potentially short!) lifecycle, its unknown how much of an effect that will have. If the meta shakes out as those locked characters are the best...then I would say its definitely PTW.

Regardless it seems pretty terrible as a BR game at the moment. As I posted in the other thread, it has a very low player count per match (only 60, compared to 100 in the top tier BR games), only squad modes currently (no solo/duos, which is a bit silly), this daft "skill" system which removes the entire point/concept of a BR game being evenly matched (its impossible to be balanced 100% if each "class" has different abilities...)

Its the last one that is the real nail in the coffin as far as it being a "Battle Royale" game goes.

That said it may well be a fun team based shooter similar to overwatch but with some BR-Esque mechanics. It seems more "Last man (team) standing" than Battle Royale to me though I've watched a few streams but not wasting my bandwidth on it just yet...will give it some time to bed in and see.

I think it's a real shame BFV has not sold well - its a great game with really solid gameplay - I think the impact of those few bigoted idiots who kicked off because they included female characters really hurt EA here...its even more annoying because this is one of the few times when EA seemed to start off on the "right" path - no DLC, no season pass...and the community has still kicked off. Ah well, I still enjoy it and don't have problems finding games, so not the end of the world

Its too expensive, not different enough from BF1. EA needs to remember PC Users, the so called "master race" arent used to paying console prices. Afterall, we dont have to pay off a brand licence to Microsoft or Sony etc just to be on the platform.

Re: EA disappointed with 7.3 million Battlefield V sales

HAHAHA...Please go bankrupt, along with microtransactions I'd rather have tons of smaller devs today (and better games), as opposed to EA/MSFT owning most of the devs. These two have ruined how many great devs over the last few decades? Shareholders requiring devs to pump out games "BEFORE THEY'RE DONE" just makes us deal with patch hell. Smaller devs make more interesting games too, rather than call of duty 759, or BF 956. Heck I'd be happy if they just put games like madden on the same frame for 3yrs and just FIX stuff and add animations, add more audio/voices etc, player changes every year etc to make it better over 2-3yrs, as opposed to bug fests yearly for all sports games etc. IE NBA hasn't been good since 2012/2013? I might say the same for Fifa/Madden too (Heck many others)...LOL.

Yeah, I think that is why jonj1611 asked the question. ::rolls eyes::

EA needs to go under and someone needs to resurrect Bullfrog and Westwood.

Re: EA disappointed with 7.3 million Battlefield V sales

Dice probably should have delayed BFV for 6 months and got it polished for launch in March/April time with Battle Royale included. Players of CoD would've been looking for something new by then and BF could have been a good game to jump on to. EA/Dice's deal with Nvidia's RTX probably prevented that this time around though.
