Re: Samsung announces the Tab S5e 10.5-inch tablet

WQXGA is 2560 x 1600 (according to the interwebs) if anyone is interested (surprised it didn't say in the specs what the actual res is or do they just expect everyone to know what they stand for these days).

Interesting that they not gone for a 4 big, 4 little cores approach and gone 2 + 6 instead. Can't remember seeing that before.

So it's this or the new iPad next month, presumably at a similar price range...

I don't think they did particularity well, sales wise, with the Tab 4 and its £600 launch price, so quite surprised to see they're launching another one.

Can't help thinking that 'surprisingly low' will be the polar opposite of the actual rrp, when it is announced.

    I agree with that.

The high screen resolution is the same as my aging twin core Nexus 10, now on it's second battery. I'd love to upgrade, but that will be beyond my price range for sure

399 USD for it apparently. Not as bad as feared. Still 100 too much for my tastes

Almost 90% of the marketing is using colors like this,
"plain white or black - meh, something puked color - ya that's gorgeous, we should buy that"

Re: Samsung announces the Tab S5e 10.5-inch tablet

I could never find a suitable replacement for the nexus 7 so ended up without using a tablet. I favour stock android and fast updates but doesnt seem a market for that.

That converts to ~£310, but I expect it will be significantly more than £400 over here. Certainly sounds better than the ~£600 I was expecting.
Colour is well down my priority list.
I would like an easily swappable battery for longevity.
Hopefully general power levels are plateauing, so obsolescence is not too quick.

At a typical straight currency conversion maybe, but don't forget US $ pricing excludes sales tax, whereas UK £ pricing includes VAT and, less visibly relevant import duties.

Sure we never seem to get a fair conversion, but the gap isn't as big as a superficial .ook would suggest.

I'd go for the Samsung, purely based on previous Tab experience. If this has a decent processor, it's definitely one to watch.

Re: Samsung announces the Tab S5e 10.5-inch tablet

I'm no Apple lover but if this is priced like previous S tab offerings people will go for the iPad, this is actually a surprise. The big problem is that no one is being able to compete with the basic iPad on price/features, which is not something expected from Apple, but it is what it is. What will I replace my iPad 3 with when it finally dies? Either a very low cost Android tablet or the basic iPad. After, all, it is going to be used almost exclusively in the loo and in bed from time to time. My XPS 13 is small enough that it just doesn't make any sense pretending to actually work on a tablet, which is just a joke.

I went for a Huawei 10 inch tablet in the end, very impressed with it and a reasonable price - https://www.argos.co.uk/product/7529072
