Is this not what the ROG gaming phone already does?

So... We are back at the Nintendo 3DS with more games, bigger display and so on?

the dual screen has no wow effect but is very "sellable", simply put, LG knows your pocket and doesn't waste money on R&D

A DS Lite is about 4mm thicker and I have no problems with that. This thing is close on my current phone thickness in an Otterbox. Neither make me feel like I'm carrying an Energiser!

So, is this technologically going forwards or backwards - I am confused!

It's technologically maintaining what already works in the first place, while still managing to have something for showing off at tech shows.

Is it going to be as useful though. With the DS everything is obviously going to be designed with that form in mind. I can't see many apps being ideal for dual screen, and even then the DS at least had physical buttons. It'd be fine for multitasking though. Still overall I'm not convinced.

As shown in the article, this one can have many different control configurations. You could have stick and buttons with second screen between, full QWERTY, arcade style with 2, 4, or 6 buttons, indeed just about anything you wanted.
If you want physical controls, a stick-on version of that should be piddle-easy, since CH Products already did something similar back in the early 90s with their MFPs and we've already have equivalent kits made for touchscreen gaming for several years now... The actual app design is barely a concern and would be quite easily altered or adapted.

Basically, there is the potential for a lot of win in something like this.
