Old puter - still good enuff till I save some pennies!
My main use of a phone is so that i can call and text people and they can do the same if they need to contact me.
Ease of use and an intuitive OS pointed me to Windows phone which is sadly now gone. Apple products are overpriced, overatted and to closed an enviroment so its now Andoid.
Lack of large bezel is preferable, resolution less important and price, i would not pay top end prices. Decent battery life. This led me to buy a one plus 3T which i still use/have.
I like the metal build of the 3T, am not a fan of the move to glass construction looks and feels less well made.
I like the look of the Mate 20X as it could replace my phone and tablet but the price is a bit steep and i have yet to see it in the flesh and i would need to handle one first to know if i am going to like it.
Battery life and support for longer then 2 years.
Battery
Speed
Stability
Fortunately, my original Pixel XL still has all the above. Though I'd like phones to have a battery that lastest more than a day. I mean, a good week or so would be a nice first step.
There is no one thing, more a combination of several.
1/ The primary reason I have this device is as a phone. Therefore it needs excellent reception. I have seen my friends phones wane and struggle in some places. For example - I worked in a business district and where we were there was one major brand in particular that always seemed to have reception problems no matter which model they had, this was made much worse with some protective cases. Whereas my phone worked fine with good reception. so I don't buy the brand they used.
2/ I have a problem tapping on the phones keyboard keys - they are just too small for most of my fingers (hate having to use my little fingers) plus my thumbs are even worse (I sometimes sit amazed at how some people can tap away so quickly with their thumbs and not get many mistakes) and I keep hitting the wrong ones. So I prefer a Samsung Note as it has a stylus built in (no dongles dangling off the phone).
3/ The stock battery life is not that bad on my phone as it lasts well over a week on one charge (up to 12 days).
4/ Weight is something to consider as I don't like my pants falling down when I have my wallet (full of damn coins) in one pocket and the phone in the other.
5/ reasonably robust, so I use the standard Samsung Note case and it protects it enough for me.
6/ Good WiFi - I have a NAS and my own cloud, so when I come home I can easily and quickly upload anything I need to via WiFi.
7/ Wireless charging is just so easy - put the phone down and it is charging. No leads to worry about.
8/ Screen size, you don't want it too small but you also don't want to be carrying a tablet in your pocket, so 6" plus or minus a half inch is fine.
9/ I never expect a mobile phone's camera to give anything other than OK photos, after all the whole camera setup is sooooo small. So this is not critical plus if I want good photos, I have a proper digital camera with a good optical zoom which takes awesome photos. I still have a couple of older 35mm film cameras which I also use.
10/ Finally price. Lately, we have seen mobile phones prices skyrocketing to ridiculous levels. Here they can cost up to and over $2500 and that is before they release the new series of phones (particularly the foldable screen phones which the cheapest are suggested at reaching well over $3500 when sold here - glad I was sitting down when I read that).
I can also add that I hate false advertising. A good example is the new foldable Huawei with the brand new first edition 5G chip. They falsely claimed that they would have "Up To" double the possible speed that particular chip is capable of in some advertising I was reading.
1. privacy
2. security
3. battery
PRice , then price , and it has to be good enough . Nexus 5 prolly going to x a2 lite £140-ish
Mostly speed ,that's better CPU with more ram for special uses and more battery power...
