Why is the upload so bad?
to encourage work-at-home people to get business packages which have more symmetrical bandwidth allowances.
And yet the wifi on the VM router will struggle to pump a signal 20ft.
I can't imagine a situation when working from home where i'd need more than 35mbps upload. That's about 8x more than I'd get as download on ADSL...

Ooooh, exciting news! I'm already in an area that provides the absolute fastest speeds. Will just about wet myself if my SpeedTest results fly up to 575Mbps!

Shame they're such a scummy outfit. Had VM from 2009 to 2015 and for the first 3 years it was fab. Then my area got oversubscribed and my lovely spangly connection had ridiculous ping and I couldn't get a downstream rate higher than 1meg after 5pm every single night until the early hours of the morning.
VM don't care about customers in this situation. All they do is knock money off your bill and give you some random date in the future that they're going to upgrade their capacity. This date invariably comes to pass and nothing improves so they just give you another one. I waited over 6 months for improvement and there was nothing, others have been known to wait years.
Even worse when I went to cancel as I had already then gotten FTTC with 74 down and 18 up through "crappy copper" they then tried to retain me by telling me I wouldn't get better speed elsewhere. I referred them to numerous written complaints I had made, that I had spoken to the area manager and gone to the comms ombudsman but they didn't care. They were still trying to peddle it to me that I wouldn't get faster internet from a phone company. Maybe if it works that's true. I would never do business with them again out of choice. They can stick their DOCSIS where the sun doesn't shine.
Unless absolute bleeding edge speed potential is all you care about AND you live in area where a) you have no choice and b) it is not oversubscribed (check out their forums first) then I would always recommended people look for alternatives before going with VM.
Spring April - May = 2021 for VM … also gives em another excuse to rip off people … for 200mps its £54, what will the prices be 130 for 500 and 260 for 1000

Having just bought one of their business packages, that's not actually the case. It's actually the same or worse than the residential packages.
Me neither, but a friend often customises VMs from home and then re-uploads them to the corporate network.
I don't know the ins and outs of why this isn't done in the cloud, but nonetheless any extra upload bandwidth would be appreciated.

Virgin media stopped doing the free upgrades to top teir customers.
They are getting worse and worse every year (not in relation to "not getting free stuff")

10MB/s is what I think it should be so 80mbps.
You try flitting between horrifically optimised power point presentations and unecessarilly large Excel files with auto save.
That's my home working experience and I'm on BTs 80/20 package.
It hurts.

It has a lot to do with technical reasons, they're not just being tight-fisted when it comes to upload bandwidth. It requires a bit of background of how the network was built but only certain frequencies are usable across the network for upstream at the moment which limits the bandwidth they able to assign to upload channels. This is changing though and a lot of the newer equipment being installed in the RF plant is capable of operating over a wider range in preparation for things like DOCSIS 3.1, but as it stands there's not a whole lot they can do right now.

Correct - sommething about hard filters put in place in the early days of the network that they are having to remove. Trouble is it's not documented where they all are, so they have to test sections of the network as they are removed and finally mark them as clear.
