Don't blame INTEL for bailing on this great idea, blame large OEM's, none wanted it. I also see why laptop OEM's didn't like this idea, as they would have been left to only making the monitor and key board parts really.
I think this was a brilliant idea, pity this has failed... The key problem INTEL was facing is that one needs to build an entire eco-system and grow a large number of users to achieve critical mass (programs, etc) - this is not easy.
Perhaps if the Card supported deep-learning that would attract many users....
For budget users it had a cost implication, for thin device users it had packaging inflexibility issues, for performance users it had heat management issues. It always seemed a one size fits no-one to me.
