    Pretty game.
I got Anno 1404 recently in a Steam sale, just to get my fix before this comes out. Only to find I'd already played the hell out of it years ago

Re: Anno 1800 PC system requirements shared by Ubisoft

This 'Epic Games Store exclusive' is getting pretty crappy. I don't want the Epic games store. I've got several competitors already (GOG, Microsoft store (gamepass) and twitch) and don't want another to lose track of. Make it cheaper on the Epic games store if you like but don't expect me to switch. I like buying at the best price on HB, Fanatical etc then just applying the key to steam to keep my games all in one place. The fragmentation of gaming stores is getting just as bad as streaming now...

The only requirement these Epic exclusives have are a VPN and a torrent client.

If Epic want exclusives to tempt people to their store, they better get developing more games as simply snatching third party games is rubbing up the consumer the wrong way.

Re: Anno 1800 PC system requirements shared by Ubisoft

People need to accommodate change, as much as people don't like having multiple launchers to manage. It's not like it takes much of a thought process. I have all my launchers disabled at startup and if i want to play a game, I'll do a limited bandwidth download whilst playing a local game or an esports title. What are the real downsides other than having everything in somewhere that isn't one place. The Ability to have a variety of platforms provides external and external pressure/competativeness. Both of which benefit the consumer by in the case of epic games we are able to see developers grow their game engines and provide us with better and more emersive experiances.

Re: Anno 1800 PC system requirements shared by Ubisoft

Are the same games cheaper on Epic, or the publishers are keeping all savings to them?
Cause if they are not cheaper what is the point going "Epic way"?

You do get limited competition with steam through key sellers (Humble bundle, fanatical etc) so I don't think the competition argument is that strong. I've got 1000s of steam games and most of what I want is there. I gave up on EA when they went separate. I'll do the same here.

I also think the competition argument would be stronger if there weren't so many damn exclusives! Just release it on both...

(For the record I also have a big annoyance with Epic as my throw away password (for pointless sites) only hit the 'Have you been pawned' list when I signed up to try fortnight - I strongly suspect its Epics fault as its was first associated with fortnight account dumps about a day after I signed up. I therefore wouldn't trust Epic's security with a very long barge pole. I'd been using that password for 20+ years where I didn't care about security and it never hit the known password list before this point.)

I got the closed beta running on medium @1080p pretty well between 40-55fps on the Ryzen 5 2400G(Vega 11 graphics) but didn't run very stable after that crashing a few times. It'll probably be sorted by the time it goes gold though.

    Nope..
I've hated steam over the years. Its just basically so they can farm info directly from the player base and maximise ingame revenues.
Your basically saying "get with the times" but the times are crap. I wanna click and go, not login, sort this out or that..

If you want it on Steam then you can pre-purchase it up to April 16th. Otherwise, it's off to the Epic Store with you.

    No discount though, it's a full £50!

Nope...Epic need to stop buying up exclusives and screwing over the gaming community. They can provide competition and help themselves plus the gaming community by selling games on their store...as well as steam and other platforms. Exclusives harm everyone except Epic, especially gamers.

Sadly it is unlikely to change as people still give in and buy them. Much like when micro transactions and free to play started to invade our games, the only way to stop that madness would have been to just not buy the darn games...but guess what - people did anyway and now we have micro transactions in almost everything In a way, we only have ourselves to blame.

This time around i'm holding fast and flat out refusing to buy anything that Epic steal away as an exclusive - with the only exception being Metro Exodus since I pre ordered that on steam well before this mess came out. As sad I will be to miss out on games like Borderlands 3, its better than supporting hugely anti competiive and anti gamer practices.
