Perhaps if the US would actually present this apparent evidence they have.
They tried to warn off other countries, but then had excuses when asked to provide evidence.
I suspect there is something else behind this, that sure isn't about security.

The US have shown themselves to be far from trustworthy or transparent when it comes to even thier own allies.
What chance is there of honesty when it comes to this.

Didn't they push for US companies like Cisco etc to put backdoors in for their NSA and CIA.

Defense in depth. If we use some Chinese gear, some USA and some other (do Nokia and eriksson still make that kit?) then no one foreign intelligence agency gets the full picture.

To clarify, i don't believe one party should be exempted because another party did it but there is, so far, no evidence that any Huawei equipment has any forms of backdoors. Several government institutions also have access to the code and HDLs of the equipment so if there is a backdoor, it's about as phantasmical as that illusive magic chip in supermicro equipment.

Overall this is the right decision, right now Huawei are leading the way in 5G tech and to be one of the first countries to have a full up and running 5G network will be very attractive to the tech industry in design and testing new devices with delivery to the whole world.

Security Services not happy about a leak from the National Security Council meeting about all this.

A Senior Cabinet Minister is going to be in trouble. A leak from the NSC, well, that puts Huawei worries into the 'not quite as important' pile.
