I will say if I didn't use my PC for photo/video editing I would have probably gone console in recent years with the state of ram and gpu prices.

In order to migrate, I'd have to buy a console and a big TV, and still be sat at my desk in a comfy chair... possibly buying two consoles, in case there are games not available on one... and I'd still have to have a PC for all the office and photo and video and internet and aaaaaaaall the other functions that a console don't do...
Besides, consoles don't even look RGB-awesome and I hate using controllers, so why on earth would I ever want one?

A game that does not need 144 buttons, 3 screens and a joystick is just a distraction :-)

There is room in my life for both Each fill different requirements I prefer console for AAA and pc for indie. For me no need to get an expensive high end GPU

I hate using controllers, I mainly play MMORPGs which don't lend themselves to consoles and are usually not available on consoles, I like to be able upgrade from time to time, I use my PC for much more than just gaming, I am not going to pay for a console as well as a PC.

That'll do for now, no console for me.

I've been gaming on the sofa for a while now, with a 65"' telly. Quite happy with either a controller or keyboard and trackpoint depending on game.

But whilst I'm ok spending on a Xbox One X, I'm not ok with the cost of upgrading from my GTX 970 to something genuinely capable of 4K.

So yeah. I'm already out. You can guess when I last upgraded and I can't see that changing given current prices.

Consoles keep putting more features behind paywalls/subscriptions that increase in cost over time eg multiplayer on retail games or free (mediocre?) games that you have no choice in, that eventually expire if you get tired of paying for. You can get these services through platforms like PC, tablet/mobile foc etc.. so I'm sceptical about huge numbers defecting from PC to console in the long term.

There will still be good game exclusives for console to justify getting one though.

This is the thing that irks me. Aside from the cost of console games vs the cost of PC games, I honestly don't see having a console for games as economical. The cost of a decent PC plus games over the life of that PC possibly works out cheaper than console gaming (?).

Anyone know how much the cost of a new console capable of 4K + 4K TV + subscription to services for at least one year + cost of new games actually is? Oh and the additional storage to store games, plus all the accessories?

I've got both but haven't invested in any PC upgrade for ages, still running a GTX770. Not much incentive to upgrade when much of my personal gaming is retro 16-bit and 8-bit gaming.

As much as PC gaming costs me (and nearly bankrupts me at times) I will never switch to console gaming. As others have stated, you would need to own 2-3 of them to be able to get all the exclusives and I just prefer the versatility that comes with PC gaming. I can play any type of game I like with better graphics options (albeit on a ludicrously expensive video card and gaming monitor setup) with the freedom of using mouse & keyboard or a joypad if I prefer. Sorry but PC gaming is here to stay for me.

then you have the extra cost of the games nearly £20 ..
I can do anything on a pc .. NOT SO MUCH ON ONE OF THOSE THINGS ..

We have been told the platform was about to die for at least 2 decades now... and I have never bought it, my parents actually bought me the only console (a PS1) I have ever owned.

What made PC gaming appealing remained the same all these years, Mouse+keyboard, greater control and freedom to both users, retailers and developers, and the obvious presence of desktops in most houses.

Even when desktops started to be replaced by all sort of other devices I couldn't see the need for them to disappear entirely, and therefore PC gaming.

But when a GTX 1070 alone costs as much as the PS4 pro even I find it hard to justify, can only imagine new consumers.

I've tried using the gamepads/controllers on a console a number of times before, and I've never liked them or got used to them. I much prefer keyboard/mouse, and so I can't really see myself switching to a console unless it gave me the ability to use keyboard/mouse for every game too.

And analysts forget to mention that we are reaching a point where there is no such thing as a console.
Consoles are becoming more like pc's every generation, So really people will be having small pc's under the tv!
I said it many years ago, There will be a convergence of technology.
I wouldn't be surprised if in future they make a console like box, Where you plug your phone into and that becomes the cpu(brains) and the box just has a dedicated gpu and fast SSD storage.
