My £500 bog-standard Dell laptop has that ... is it not fairly standard now?

Not really - it hits a lot of good points if you want a "compromise" device. I've got a Toshy Click Mini which is built on the same form factor (8.9" 16:10 display) and it's the smallest device I've found that you can work on effectively - it's *just* big enough to feel like I'm using a proper laptop, but it's small and light enough to not really notice I'm carrying it around. You can't really pocket it - it needs to be dropped into a bag - but since I usually carry a bag anyway that's not a big issue for me.

I picked up a click mini myself but didn't really get on with it; the hardware battery drain issue was never fixed properly (to my satisfaction anyway).

I've always liked (loved) this sort of mini PC, right back to a clamshell Zaurus PDA, through to an OQO Model 1, a couple of netbooks from ASUS and more recently the GPD Pocket 2. The Max looks right up my street. At a pinch the standard Pocket 2 is usable without a BT keyboard and mouse but I wouldn't like to use it for a week without the mouse...
