Occam's razor would suggest it is just basic sloppiness. Yes it is difficult to get right, so would be an obvious corner to cut when up against a deadline.

AMD still have a burden of having to be seen to be compatible and I think are held to a higher standard than Intel and so have to put more effort in for the fear of people pointing and shouting "incompatible" at the first hint of trouble.
What are you 20 years outdated? Are you an Intel apologist? AMD is held to the same standard as Intel as they are a duopoly of equal standing in the x86/x64 space. Unless you have been living in a cave, your x64 (64 bit, yes?) everything environment was an AMD innovation that AMD cross licensed to Intel. In case you were still sucking on a milk bottle when that happened, its because AMD single handedly killed all the other inferior 64 bit standards proposed by Intel (Titanium duh?), Unix etc.

To even use the word "incompatible" is shockingly dumb.

lol, perhaps I didn't make that clear enough. It isn't me that thinks AMD have compatibility problems, but I still come across those that do. They are wrong, but buying Intel gives them a warm fuzzy feeling.

I also drive an Alfa Romeo which I occasionally get people telling me "It will rust", so I'm used to people telling me nonsense

As for me, I am surrounded here by ARM chips (my current job involves a dual core A9 embedded Linux target) which I am programming on my Ryzen based desktop and as a Linux PC user am very aware that I am installing AMD_64 packages as they all have that in the package name. I have worked on just about every major and most minor processor architectures from 6502 to big iron Power mainframes with a few just a few gaps (never got my hands on a DEC Alpha). I personally don't like x86 in any form, discussing the best x86 cpu is like discussing whose farts smell nicest. They aren't nice, any of them.

I disagree, The ones you can't smell are the nicest
