Was beginning to think 10nm was never going to show up to the party. Now the long wait for desktop to make an appearance but at least its progress finally

Those graphics results hardly look impressive. That's already kind of what I'd expect for a performance difference between a 620 and Iris 650. How much does the new Iris add over the 650?

Rumour says it never will, performance and yields for 10nm is poor but power consumption is good so for desktop it would make more expensive and slower parts. Seems you are either waiting for Intel's 7nm for desktop, or buy a Ryzen like the rest of us

The FreeSync support will make a huge difference if laptops start supporting it as standard.

I even put 1 in my Scan basket a few weeks ago but bricked it at the last minute and swapped for a 9th gen Coffee Lake.

I'm a gluten for punishment, but on the whole content sitting here trying to figure out how to wire up my Betamax VCR and HD DVD to get a picture on my G-Sync monitor

That single thread performance graph is *super* deceptive, simultaneously cutting off the base amount to make the performance look better than it really is, and comparing ultimately to 5th gen (Launched in 2010???), not year over year IPC improvements. :-/

    Standard marketing stuff though.
Also, note the 15W thing: since Sky Lake/Kaby Lake/Kaby Lake R/Whiskey Lake are all Skylake architecture with the same IPC what the chart shows is the improvements Intel have made by refining 14nm.

Is Intel not being on 10 or 7nm, reaaaaally all that though?
What tangible reasons for using it do they have?

    *laundry list of reasons*

The primary one is that 14nm has reached the ned of its lifetime, it's not really going to get any better. With new nodes comes new architecture design possibilities not possible on a larger node.

    Is that tangible enough?

Re: Intel unveils its 10nm Ice Lake mobile processors

Bizarrely, Intel hasn't shared a list of specific products but has said it expects over 30 designs, each with multiple variations, to come to market.
Because they dont have numbers and its a paper launch. You might see them in 2021.
