Re: Intel challenges AMD to "beat us in real world gaming"
"Real World Gaming" for Intel vs AMD would be excellent if the Intel £ vs AMD £ price & not just CPU but mobo and ram too, were taken into the mix.
I feel that might not bwe what Intel has in mind though.
and
As someone has already said - someone with Ryzen 1 series (I have a 1700 for example) could easily upgrade to a 2700 with just a CPU and possibly even go to a 3 series on the same board.
Intel's history of that is .... not awesome.
Re: Intel challenges AMD to "beat us in real world gaming"
The only common points of reference between the Intel chart:
https://hexus.net/media/uploaded/201...4b7baf5dc5.jpg
..and the AMD chart:
https://images.anandtech.com/doci/14...610_151325.jpg
Are GTV5 and PUBG, crunching the numbers, and assuming both are accurate, it seems the 3900X is going to be typically around 25% faster than the 2700X when we're CPU limited.
Which falls exactly in line with where you'd expect it to be when you take into account the increase in clock frequency (4.7Ghz vs 4.35Ghz) and an increase of around 15% to the IPC.
Re: Intel challenges AMD to "beat us in real world gaming"
Wake up Intel!
Real world gaming means gaming WHILE SIMULTANEOUSLY & CONCURRENTLY streaming the game play to the cloud, downloading stuff from Steam, downloading/streaming other stuff like movies, messaging on Whatsapp or gaming text with one's mates and maybe even sorting out some photos or rendering some videos ... all of that in the background! Its called multi-tasking/multi-threaded performance!
Not the kind of crap where for for the past 10 years, you have been telling us we need to shut down all other apps in order to run a single gaming app.
Not to mention the fact that in the real world, people have limited budgets and are conscious of long term hardware compatibility and longevity - unlike those clueless Intel fangirls using their mother's money handouts to buy their gaming rigs!
Re: Intel challenges AMD to "beat us in real world gaming"
That's some serious multi-tasking!
Re: Intel challenges AMD to "beat us in real world gaming"
Well, Intel totally don't come across as rattled and terrified!
The sole result of this move by Intel for me is to make me look very carefully at the new AMD offerings for my next upgrade. I'm very low income at the minute and haven't upgraded for about 5 years but use my computer for work (solo indie game dev) and gaming every day. My next several years of PC looks likely to be AMD this time around!

I think for some years Intel has been a very laptop centered company, and people don't upgrade laptops.
You think like an idiot. Since when has Intel been "a very laptop centered company..." ?!?!?

Nope, intel have focused on the laptop market, but focused may not be the right word. Say intel sell 110million laptops cpu skus last year. in comparison desktop cpus sell about 60million and servers 10million. Now statisticly their focus will tell them that they have eaten the laptop market whole. When you compare to amd at 50million laptops, 40 million desktops and a neglagable amount of servers uptill now (opteron = Poop). The other reason they would focus on laptops is that the upgrade cycle is alot more frequent than a desktops. we are in the final phase of transfering windows 7 pcs to 10pcs in many work places. But the general laptop user will replace that laptop at least once in that desktop cycle.

What are you on about?
I don't know any gamer that would do half of what you have suggested, single player or multiplayer.. if i'm playing a game I want to concentrate on the game, no a film that's playing, a song that's playing, messaging people on whatsapp or even sorting out photo's...
I've also never seen Intel, or anyone else claim that you have to close all other apps, while playing a game.. not sure what you've been reading.

I'd also be careful labeling people idiots, that kind of talk and attitude is generally frowned upon on Hexus and makes you look somewhat childish..

I'm not sure one can say how an idiot thinks. One could say "you reason like a fool", or "your conclusions are misguided" or plain "i think you're mistaken". I don't see how anyone can say to have any insight into how someone thinks, idiot or otherwise. All we see is the outworking that comes from the thinking (if any). That is the part one can criticise.
Getting less tangential about it, do try and play nice. It's how people get along and have sensible conversations. Since you throw around the accusation of "idiot" you clearly feel you are not, and therefore I feel happy to conclude you self-declare that you should know better. It would be lovely if you could therefore kindly act like it and meet the standards you clearly expect of others.:)

Since they started pushing their "Ultrabook" specification and the pretty useless on desktops "Thunderbolt". Every release of recent processors has claimed massive performance improvements, which only make sense when you add "at 15W" to the end of the announcement because:
1/ desktop improvements have been minimal at best for years
2/ they don't mention they are talking about 15W laptop parts because desktops users don't even occur to them.
To be fair, they aren't really a laptop only company, they make lots of money on servers. They just clearly don't care about us desktop users, unless you are paying through the nose for a Xeon workstation.
I think it is a general American corporate thing though not just Intel. I used to work for Cisco, and on joining was asked "What sort of laptop would you like, Windows or Mac?". The answer: "Linux Desktop please" wasn't an available option :)

At least they gave you somewhat of a choice. On joining my current company I was assigned a Windows laptop. We develop on Linux, targeting embedded Linux. *grumble* *whinge*

You need to be VERY careful labelling people idiots on this forum. I am the only true idiot and, like the Last Samurai I will fight for what I believe to my final breath.
Throw that title around with the utmost caution as I shall defeat every act of so-called idiocy put in my path. This will culminate in an act of idiocy so great that it creates a singularity so dense it will challenge me for the densest object in the universe, the space between creating the All Forces Nullification Point creating three regions of space-time in one Parsec which break Hawking's equations. Break free only by means of Hawking Radiation and even then, you'll find in use of Plank's constant a PITA when you're dealing with evapouration of an infinitely dense mass. Like my brain. Where was I?
Ah yes, idiocy. There is the Dunning-Kruger effect to be aware of, as well as pride coming before a fall. As a professional idiot (not one of these knock off wannabes) I have experienced this a on number of occasions and I can tell you, it feels gooood to be proven to be a total moron in public.
Are you American? I ask because of the spelling and I would have thought any British person calling someone else an idiot would have their spelling spot on. Otherwise, they might look silly. Personally, I relish in my spelng mistakes so mcuh I was one of the first to adopt auto-erect on my phone.

Completely unsubstantiated.

Two completely unnecessary sentences. You've been warned before that comments like the one highlighted are completely unacceptable. Suspended for four weeks.

The work I was doing was much the same, so the usual way forward was to run a Linux VM on the Windows laptop (which I find gives you the worst of both worlds, not the best). At one point I was ignoring the rather powerful desktop replacement laptop and developing on a Raspberry Pi as it was more productive :D
