It's a bit funny tbh, since the one thing that the RTX2060 can't do properly is ray-tracing. Sure, it has the pre-requisite hardware, but it's not nearly potent enough.

If 7nm was such a magic bullet then Vega 7 would be a better product. Expect improvements by all means, but don't hold your breath for a revolution.

In the meantime, early adopters are enjoying playing games on their shiny card.

A - I needed to upgrade as my 8 year old PC couldn't cope with new games.
B - Name a new graphics card that would cope happily with 2560x1440 at ultra settings as well as not eating electricity (save the planet and all that) while burning hotter than our sun and sounding like a hurricane?

7nm wasn't the cause of Vega 7s mediocrity, it was a too generalised compute architecture. It was not designed as a gaming GPU first.

The same could be said of the original Vega architecture. The transistor count difference between Vega VII and Vega 64 is only about 5%; the FP64 rate is up a factor of 4 and there are the two extra memory controllers but there can't be a lot of secret compute source in so few transistors. There was a time when shrinking a process node bought you a halving in die size and a doubling in clock speeds, but those times are long one. Here we get a reduction from 486mm^2 to 381 and a bump in base clock speeds of about 12% and that is with *two* full process shrinks (14 to 10, 10 to 7).

So whilst I'm sure AMD could (and will) do better with 7nm for gamers than Vega VII by cutting down the FP64 and FP16 support and putting those transistors into more shaders we can use, the old gravy train of process shrinks has slowed to a crawl. Or lets just see how many graphics chiplets they can cram onto an interposer.

As it sits £500 for a mid-tier neutered 2070 or £1000+ for a top tier card? Ha! What do these things actually cost to make with R&D included? Bet its 30% or less of that price.

It's not exactly mediocre, either, it does trade blows with the 1080 Ti & 2080, and it has the VRAM to keep performing well for years.

Just sad to see so many people are not intelligent enough to understand their spoiled buy fever (even if deserved) DO MAKE PRICES GO UP for them and for everybody else.
You could enjoy those graphics too but for less money, if you were patient and selective enough.
But consumerism culture is just stronger than common sense.

PS: I could buy 2080Ti every month without breaking my budget. I choose not to because it is a poor value.
