I've had to remove a couple of rice crispies from my monitor where I just snorted! £675!

and yet for all that money, the high speed network port is only 5Gbit despite Asus making 10Gbit cards and switches. That would leave a pretty bad taste if I was buying that.

I see the Asrock Phantom Gaming board comes with a 2.5Gbit ethernet port, presumably using the Realtek rtl8125 which on a card is only about £25. Seems a puny step up from 1Gbit though.

Motherboard manufacturer went full retard with this new Zen 2 motherboards...

Don't know what people are getting all shirty about on flagship model pricing for AMDs boards, it means Mobo manufacturers are taking AMD seriously and finally putting in effort where it is due.

I mean, look at the Intel boards:

MSI MEG Z390 Godlike - 574.99

Gigabyte Z390 Aorus extreme - 519.95

In regards to waterblock Mobos, the only two I could find are:

Asus Maximus XI ROG - £374.99 (vastly less features)

Gigabyte Intel Z390 AORUS XTREME WATERFORCE - Ludicrous pricing=£1000

This is the top of the pile mobo from ASUS - so definitely comes at a premium. Will be interesting to see the spread of prices as the large number of x570 boards launch in a few days time.

I get that a top end motherboard will be expensive, but I can get an Asus Threadripper mobo with 10GbE port for £520. The choice of 5GbE is just odd, an expensive yet not top end option. They seem to be bristling with LEDs and stuff that gets in the way of airflow for your money, I'm struggling to spot the must buy feature.

It will be very interesting to see what these monster VRM setups allow with precision boost overdrive vs an old X470 like I have. If it makes a measurable improvement to clock speeds that could be worth it to plenty of people.

I like that there *is* such an expensive X570 board already, though I don't want one that expensive.

Is it weird to be annoyed that there aren't more motherboards for 3000 series up for pre-order? That would be a nice thing to have for people who at least want to peruse what's available.

I get that, but I guess they didn't want to add an extra £50-75 to the price for a proper Intel 10GbE when it was already so high. I guess they skimped in those place to keep the price lower to make sure the cost of the water blcok is offset.

Asus tax is getting out of hand.

I remember the days when £150 was considered a fair price for a high-end mainstream motherboard.

Christ, for £675, I could get an EPYC workstation board and have a bit of cash left over for the CPU or extra memory.

Though I guess I'm in a slightly different target market.

While this is high end, the motherboards and price secrecy is making me nervous. Still, when the board costs more than almost all of the CPUs, that does seem kind of absurd.

From the look of the X470 Taichi Ultimate with a 10GbE port costing £31 more than a Taichi X470, I'm guessing Asus have saved a tenner.

Hmm, I wonder if Asrock just had a bunch laying around.

Frankly, I'll never buy a >1GbE interface that's not an Intel Chipset. I'll grin and bear Realtek for standard 1GbE but for my networking equipment and servers are always going to be Intel.
