As it happens my GTX 670 gave up the ghost only last month, not exactly sure what part of the GPU broke as like most GPU failures it still worked when it was forced into a basic video mode.

Last thing to properly fail was a GTX 460 2GB. It just died and was a factory overclock model, so probably voltage regulation given how old it was by then.

I did have a 2600X that was never quite right and got sent back. It at least had the good grace to leave lots of info in the Linux kernel log that core 0 was constantly correcting errors in the L1 cache, and reboots on uncorrectable double bit errors. It was like that out of the box, not sure if DOA counts. At least it rebooted really fast

A WD black 640 HDD was the last item that failed on me 3 or 4 years ago. I'm still not 100% sure what happened to it, but it would randomly not show up at boot and Iā€™d have to reboot a few times until it did. I ran crystal disk on it and that showed a few bad sectors etc. Thankfully I managed up pull everything important off it when it did boot though.

Last month when I upgraded to a ryzen 3600. The pc wouldn't boot and it turned out one of the ram sticks and gone faulty, despite having worked fine for the past 14 months.

Re: QOTW: What was your last PC component to fail?

The last component, if you can call it that, was the 'start' switch on a case, i.e. what used to be the on/off but in these sift-start days it's not really that anymore.

I wired in my own decent quality switch and, well, carried on. That was, oh, 5 years ago, maybe.

What caused it? As it was on a case with pretty minimal use, I'm going for lousy, cheap, rubbjsh component quality over wear-and-tear, but I can't prove it. Other that that, a good 15 years or so I'd say.

One from four DDR3 Ram sticks, had them around 10 years and had upgraded to a new pc so no real issues letting it run with 3GB lol.

WD Blue 1TB 64mb cache consumer disk. Took 13 months to go from fine to having every sector go bad at the same time. I VERY SLOWLY copied my data off it, with latencies for normal access in seconds and transfer rates under a few hundred KB/s. No idea why it did this, system was fine when I left before work and the drive was on death's door when I got back.

Re: QOTW: What was your last PC component to fail?

My graphics card 2 months ago. And it killed my motherboard and CPU. But it turns out that the GPU fans burned(Zotac and their garbage fans) and caused an electric spike which killed the other components(motherboard's pci-e slot, displayport port and CPU) .
Bizzarely enough I changed the GPU radiator for an Arctic Accelero III(GPU warranty obsolete) and the GPU is doing fine since then(a week plus). But I lost the motherboard and CPU for sure.
