Re: QOTW: Do you use contactless payments?

Barely ever use anything other than contactless payments these days.

However, can I just get something off my chest? See these retailers that claim to use ApplePay and then you go to use your iPhone for say, a payment of £70, and the cashier looks at you like you're the thickest person they've ever laid eyes on because everyone knows there's a £30 limit? THAT grinds my gears. ApplePay is NOT contactless. Do not advertise as accepting ApplePay if you aren't. (Also applies to Google Pay)

Re: QOTW: Do you use contactless payments?

I use it daily via my phone.

I'm aware of the potential security issues with the (contactless) cards, but at least with a phone, NFC comms only work when it's unlocked / or enabled.

Re: QOTW: Do you use contactless payments?

Almost exclusively use contactless nowadays. I only get cash out when I go to watch live bands to buy their CDs and teeshirts.
I think the £30 limit is a good idea until they have a further level of security. As the fingerprint card seems some time off yet, why not include a photograph of the card owner?

Re: QOTW: Do you use contactless payments?

    No, I don't.

Insisted on a non-contactless (debit) card and very rarely use credit card at all. Cash is my preferred method. Use Dr card for fuel as my preferred fuel station is non-cash, and won't take credit cards. Virtually everything else is cash.

I use contactless with the debit card but, the mobile is not enabled for any form of payments and is going to stay that way.

I think some businesses still opt to apply a £30 limit to mobile payments even though the payment methods themselves support more, a problem I've run into myself, also a friend who tried to pay for >£30 petrol and had no backup, so had to leave details and go back later to pay! Have you found >£30 payments are more widely accepted now, because I'd pretty much given up trying a while back TBH.

Re: QOTW: Do you use contactless payments?

Contactless payment is the main form payment I use. I use google pay rather than contactless card. I still finding it annoying that not everywhere accepts google pay over £30. Shell accepts over £30.
The payment terminals in morrisons specifically say they accept over £30 for google and apple pay however I tried twice at different visits with my previous bank (halifax) and it didn't work either time so had to use chip and pin. I once used google pay at a ice cream parlor and looked at the details google pay generated on the receipt. The end date was 2060 and the start date 2090 or something like that.

Morrison's supermarket and Shell fuel are the only places I've found that accept >£30 that I've found. Will be great once it's widespread and the Contactless and ApplePay/Google Pay things aren't referred to as the same thing.

Re: QOTW: Do you use contactless payments?

I’ve bought stuff at GoOutdoors for well over £150 using A credit card registered on my phone (ApplePay). I think the limit is down to the retailer.

ApplePay is limitless, Contactless is limited to £30. The problem is some retailers advertise themselves as accepting ApplePay when they really accept Contactless, which an iPhone also supports.

It's especially annoying when Maggie the checkout lady turns around with this grin on her face and says "Contactless is limited to £30."
"Aye but ApplePay isn't and the logo right there above your card machine says you accept it."

Out of interest, is there a reasoning behind that, or it it just out of preference/don't see the point? I've known a few people to criticise me using it on the basis of 'security', but it's a flawed logic.
