Re: QOTW: Your next gaming GPU - Nvidia or AMD?

Probably AMD. Got a dirt cheap Vega 56 a while back, likely to pop that in my sons computer to replace the 980 in there, and get myself a 5700XT, which seems very good in the bang for bucks sense. Just need to resolve the black screen I've got with the latest AMD Radeon Drivers on my Hades Canyon NUC. I mean, it's got a built in Radeon, and I've got another Radeon connected via an eGPU enclosure- it shouldn't be this difficult should it...

Re: QOTW: Your next gaming GPU - Nvidia or AMD?

I would have to sell my pair of Maxwell GTX Titan X's first, but as I have G-Sync displays it would probably be another Nvidia card.

But to be truthful I would be happy to sell both of my Maxwell Titan X's and replace them with a single Pascal Titan X (or a GTX 1080 Ti), i just can't warrant spending the type of money that an RTX Titan costs oor even an RTX 2080 Ti at the moment.

Re: QOTW: Your next gaming GPU - Nvidia or AMD?

It'll likely be at least two to three years before I buy a new graphics card so, far to soon to say which way I'll be going. In any event I won't be looking for a new graphics card until the one I have is found wanting by new games, or goes kaputt.

Re: QOTW: Your next gaming GPU - Nvidia or AMD?

I'll probably wait to see what Nvidia do with Ampere and when RTX is better supported and hitting decent frame rates. 1070 will do me for now.

Guess I have a thing for French mathematicians

Re: QOTW: Your next gaming GPU - Nvidia or AMD?

More than likely it will be Nvidia, as my only times with AMD have been frustrating ones. That was a few years ago now so things may well have improved for them but the experience has swayed my choice since then.
I haven't had any serious issues with Nvidia so either I have been lucky, or they just suit me :-)

Re: QOTW: Your next gaming GPU - Nvidia or AMD?

It depends - I want something that can support 4k resolution on a Freesync monitor. So probably AMD unless the new NVIDIA cards are more powerful at a cheaper price point. I.E <£500 which is highly unlikely

Well when I (finally) get to see the rest of the custom 5700 (xt) reviews (which are all well after their mid august release) I'll know the answer to this...

Whichever gives the best value for money in 3/4 years time as not long gone to a second hand 1080Ti

Want to go Team red but I have Gsync 34" so probably wait for 3900xt release and hope the 2080ti (or 2080 TI Super gets to a better price

almost certainly Nvidia, unless AMD or Intel can come up with the equivalent or better of an RTX 2070 for a laptop.
