Crytek releases its Neon Noir raytracing benchmark tool

Free tool doesn't require RT cores. Has minimum recommended hardware levels though.

Re: Crytek releases its Neon Noir raytracing benchmark tool

Crytek says that the real-time raytracing feature as demonstrated will ship in CryEngine in 2020 and will be optimised to make use of the latest advancements of new graphics cards plus newer APIs like DX12 and Vulkan.
So, does that mean this will, or won't, take advantage of the dedicated RT cores in my RTX GPU?

EDIT: The video says they don't use the RT cores. I wonder if NVIDIA will find a way of manipulating things to have these calculations done on the cores, otherwise they're a bloody big waste of expensive silicon so far.

I get near 60 fps at 4k with a 2080 Ti on the very high setting (big dip to 45 fps on the bullet casings) and ~10% less on ultra settings with a low of 37 fps on the bullet casings.

I know 60 fps is probably deemed good enough in most cases, but If they don't have specific routines to really leverage RTX, especially after a year of release, then what's the point in them putting out a demo of their a engine when somebody dropping £1500+ on a card like this can't cane it. It doesn't leave much hope for future titles.

Granted 4k gaming is still for the minority but surely those willing to spend top cash should get top results?

    7402 in score ( 1080p - ultra fullscreen )
I get a dip to 55 FPS on the shell casings.

Not bothering with simulating a 4K screen as i only have a 1080 screen, but i recon my 5700 XT will take a beating.

Re: Crytek releases its Neon Noir raytracing benchmark tool

I tried 4K on my 1070GTX just for da sh*ts and giggles. All I got was 17fps at best and a migraine

Dropped to 11fps for bullet casings and an overal score of 1477

Not yet. You demo engine tech ahead of the hardware cycle, or by the time games start using it you'll be complaining that a £100 card can get 60fps so why buy anything more?

I think RTX is an evolutionary dead end - ray tracing is going to be driven by console take-up. If RTX can accelerate that, then great, but ray tracing is going to have to work on AMD.

As much as it pains me to say it, I think you're right. NVIDIA really need to find a way of leveraging their own dedicated hardware to run this type of ray-tracing, or give up. RTX isn't going anywhere.

Re: Crytek releases its Neon Noir raytracing benchmark tool

5960 points for 1920x1080 ultra on my mildly overclocked EVGA NVIDIA 980ti SC (78fps max, 42fps low on the bullet casings)
Impressed with this considering how computationally intense any sort of ray tracing is to render in real time. The more developers work on this, the better results we will see in games, which is where it counts, and on all hardware too please!

1680x1050 resolution in Ultra. looked to be about 17fps at most. went to 11 on the bullet puddle.
bunch of screen tearing and popping things.

I played the entirety on Crysis at lower fps than that, but that did have the advantage of not loading any collision boxes for the aliens so the last few levels I didn't get shot atall, but also couldn't shoot them, it turned into a walking simulator.

so who needs a new computer when an older 9 year old one still runs things?

You say run, i say stagger like a three legged arthritic donkey. Still, if you need to keep warm this winter just play the benchmark.

To paraphrase Jeremy Corbin; a benchmark for the many, not for the few.

You're complaining that top software engineers have been slaving away on a complex rendering engine and benchmark and it's not enough that they're not asking you to pay them for their work, but you don't even want to create a free account?

Yes indeed - How DARE they do that? What do they want our data for? Are they selling it to the Chinese? Do they have links to the Chinese and the Russians? Why can't they work for free and give us everything for free? After all, Jeremy Corbyn is giving us all free internet. Vote Labour. Brexit.....
And whatever else threads usually descend into.

Meantime, I keep forgetting to grab this benchmark. Must try and get it done this week!
