I want to see Day Of The Tentacle with RTX on.
Followed by the Monkey Island series.
And Sam n' Max Hit The Road.
All of these games will clearly be infinitely better with RTX on. Much like Minecraft.
This is pretty much an admission that the tech isn't mauture enough for current gen AAA titles, so they're providing content by remastering older titles, which run acceptably.
To quote Max: "The thrill is gone..." (after the first ride on "The Cone of Tragedy")
TBH, "Kings Quest 1" would look absolutely awesome raytraced.
Can we have need for speed underground with rtx?
The first 3 Splinter Cell games with ray tracing would certainly be interesting.
"This doesn't look like the Lincoln Tunnel, Sam."
"Looks to me like a marginally volatile hostage situation, Max."
"Can I confront, subdue and pummel the suspected perpetrator, Sam?"
"Sick 'im up, 'lil buddy".
That game was so awesome.
I think it might also explain a lot of my slightly odd personality.
I think this is a way of trying to get people to buy their new hardware with minimal outlay. There's little purpose in putting RTX on with modern games as you have to drop the texture quality / resolution down. RTX is there to make things look as good as they can, so compromising on other image quality settings to get the FPS playable is mad.
Question is.... will Nvidia be bundling these games, selling them or giving them away as tech demos? I bet they'll bundle and also sell as standalone games at silly, insulting prices to those who have already bought RTX hardware.
Super Mario RTX please
You're all wrong, I'm afraid
Duke Nukem 3D and Unreal. Done.
Why I applaud Nvidia's commitment to improving older titles I really think their efforts would be better spent making current gen work with RTX at acceptable frame rates on less pricey cards. Then they will have my attention. Until then I'll stick with my 1080ti.
So RTX is about tarting up eye candy rather than making the gameplay more fun/challenging/interesting? I'm shocked!
Some claimed that with Control that being able to see enemies in reflections was a thing, but I saw scant evidence for this in the play-through videos, and even then there was absolutely no suggestion of any game mechanic utilising any ray-traced feature. Imagine weapons that receive boosts when used via reflections, or NPCs that have secrets given away by their reflections. Games may be prettier, but that's not the same as making them better.
With DLSS and the nvidia freestyle sharpening filter I have found RTX to not be THAT bad on current AAA. I think they could actually add RTX to less so retro titles and get away with it, some titles from the last gen would probably look really modern with RTX enabled and should run well.
I might be interested if they do System Shock and Deus Ex :-)
No, you can remaster a title in a year easily, new IP from start to finish, maybe 3-5yrs (2-4 for console maybe, especially switch etc). So if you want massive support quickly, do the economical thing that is easily much faster, and bring back a lot of titles people wouldn't mind seeing updated anyway and many of today's younger people don't even know were great at one time. Great way to show off the tech and update some old favs. I love the idea of remastering great titles. I missed some great ones over the years, so to play them updated with at least passable graphics today, I'm all in. In many ways I like older games more anyway, as they didn't have graphics to wow you, so gameplay HAD to be there or bust.
