Don't panic, we'll be back after we've greased the joints and tightened the bolts.

So that's why DR locked the front door this morning. It's all starting to make sense now.

Turn some bits off - fiddle with some other bits - try and find the screws we may have lost, then turn it on, making sure power is connected first.

A guarantee you'll have at least one screw left over afterwards that doesn't seem to fit anywhere.

Exactly, but with a website you can't just store the leftover bolts in the bottom of the sump till next time.

If it rattles, the thing that's supposed to rattle hasn't fallen off.

I remember rebuilding an engine in the late 70s.

I was really pleased with myself, no bits at all left over ..... until I noticed the brand new head gasket still sitting in it's packet.

I won't repeat what I called myself, on the basis that that many rude words woukd be account suicide, but it is more or less when I decided to get someone that actually knew what they were doing to work on my cars .... and gas boilers .... in the future.

P.S. I stripped the head back off, inserted gasket and rebuilt properly and the engine was still working perfectly when I sold the car a couple of years later so I'm not a complete idiot. Just lousy memory.
