And early tests show a slight improvement in Ryzen CPU all-core boost clocks.

Rather have it than read about it :/
Re: AMD AGESA 1.0.0.4 speeds up boot times by >23 per cent
I am just on 1.1.0.2 for my Aorus extreme :-(
Re: AMD AGESA 1.0.0.4 speeds up boot times by >23 per cent
Took em long enough. It\'s stuff like this that put me off Ryzen - I sold both my rigs and went back to an i7.
I\'m sure I buy one again eventually, but this crap has been going on for two years.

If the performance are still the best for the price, I wouldn't pay the extra cash to go with Intel unless I only play with my computer, but yet again one may better off with a console in that case.
Keep in mind that a 3700x (~€340) trade blows with the 9900k (~€530 + heatsink cost)... €190+ cheaper is a nice compensation for some minor issues.
Also, that screenshot doen't show temperatures, it might be throttling.

Sorry, you've got me baffled. What am I supposed to be angry about? I bought a chip because I was happy with the benchmark results and price, and now it is going to be faster.

You got put off by fractional increases in core clocks and an extra 5 second long boot time?
Zen 2 literally only came out this year, it's a very different beast from Zen 1/+.

Forgive my ignorance, have the boot times been really slow up until now on Ryzen then? I'm poised to build a new system this Autumn and Ryzen 3 has so far appealed to me more.

As it says in the article, the boot times went from 22s to 17s in that specific cold boot test.
22s isn't really something to run from though.
Re: AMD AGESA 1.0.0.4 speeds up boot times by >23 per cent
My 2600 boots into Win 10 in just under 7 secs...
Tests like this don't really mean much in real world
Re: AMD AGESA 1.0.0.4 speeds up boot times by >23 per cent
If my PC is ever shut down, I usually turn it on and then go to get me coffee.
It was long time I was bothered with the slowness of the Windows boot.
But I think it is somewhere under 20sec (Windows boot itself is under 10sec).
Re: AMD AGESA 1.0.0.4 speeds up boot times by >23 per cent
I haven't tried to speed it up but I have a pretty low boot time with an B350, 1700 on Samsung 850 Evo SATA and Win 10 1803. I don't think it's 20 seconds so...
I'm really looking forward to the 1.0.0.4b updates coming from MSI for my boards. Apparently though since 1.0.0.6 AGESA there are not really speed improvements. I'm sure they are changing *something*.
And I do plan on buying 1 or 2 16 core products in future, just not for a year or so. Maybe longer, maybe I have a drink and buy a processor upgrade on a whim. I dunno.

Who said you had to be angry? I'm certainly not. In fact I'm thrilled that you're happy, well.. indifferent really. I'm sure you had a point other than some vague and flaccid straw man effort?

Nope. I said "it's things like this that put me off" - interminable waits for basic AGESA fixes, which addressed anything from five reset loops after failed RAM speed adjustments, appalling to mediocre RAM compatibility AND long boot times. These things plagued Zen1 and, despite Zen2's obvious improvements, it still takes them months to roll out what should've been a simple fix.

If it appeals to you, got for it - I'm not anti-AMD, I was just disappointed with my experience with Zen1, but I got good money for my Ryzen gear and a mad deal on a 9700k, so all's good.
I may go back to Ryzen in the future, but only once I'm satisfied the whole platform is fully matured.
Re: AMD AGESA 1.0.0.4 speeds up boot times by >23 per cent
No updates from gigabyte yet, I have been happy with my 3700x since launch its nice to get a some boosts after the fact.
I will say the main thing I noticed what boot time got slower from my previous system, windows is faster in every way but it seems to take longer to get through the bios, not annoyingly so but I did notice it. So if this sorts that out even better.

Looks to that that\'s your bios\' version, not the version of AGESA included in it.

Horses for courses. I've gone for AMD for exactly the same reasons. Intel dragging their feet over the numerous security issues which impact performance of their overpriced chips.
