As long as Netflix keep those data centers out of Denmark i am happy, several others are building here and IMO it is a waste of our green and black power.

    Netflix got nothing i want.

Wouldn't it be more ecologically friendly to situate a data centre in a place with lots of green power rather than where power is mostly generated by fossil fuels? I don't get your reasoning.

Re: Netflix eyes move to AMD Epyc processors in data centres

    black power = coal power.

When current data centers open they will be using much of the Danish green power, so we are pretty much back to square 1 in regard to the country as a whole.
Some say they will be using green power from Norway, I guess the 700 MW Skagerak 4 cable between Denmark and Norway will glow red hot.
And these are all tax evading tech giants, so i am sure it will be a loose - loose case for Denmark.

Re: Netflix eyes move to AMD Epyc processors in data centres

Power is power, whether green energy or from coal. Unless you go super regulative you can't *stop* people making data centers and drinking all your power in your country. You just charge everyone a little more and invest more in green energy.

The days of coal and oil are slowly coming to an end. God knows what this will mean with the current prevalence of the petrodollar phenomena.

Re: Netflix eyes move to AMD Epyc processors in data centres

But Danes already pay 2X for just about everything here, if they up taxes or price for everyday things, you will live next to a battlefield soon.
Dont get me wrong i know we use more and more power, but maybe we should spend that power on essential things, and really though Netflix hold nothing for me personally, what it hold for a lot of other people are just mind numbing waste of time.
And Netflix will actually be getting their power at a discounted price, as industry here get that, so at least NIX that option.

And they wont even recycle the waste heat of these data centers, something that could be done with the decentralized Danish heating infrastructure.
So if they claim to have a green agenda / image, the are just taking a piss on you.

Norwegian green power are most often hydro electrical, and i am sure Atlantic salmon can do without that.

Coal and Oil is being replaced with Gas , which is still a Fossil fuel , slightly better , but not green by any stretch.
