If people want free as in beer then these companies need somewhere to get revenue. Hopefully this won't end the free tier as the more people have a variety of AV installed, the better protected we all are.

Sure he doesn't use avast on his computers..
After seeing many real world examples of Windows AV being about as useful as a condom machine in a nunnery I could never recommend it.
It looks great in synthetic tests and that's all...
on the other side of this, I wonder if avg and avast will become less effective now...
