Notepad is useful as it strips out formatting of pasted text - handy for using with eBay descriptions I find.
Why can't Candy Crush be optional?
This solves nor achieves anything.
627KB notepad seems like an odd thing to target given the other crap in the bowels of Windows.

It is my remembering sheet - which starts up with Windows - always :-)
I update all my tasks several times a day.
It is snappy and it is simple.

wordpad similarly is useful on machines with no office to open basic word files and even write a letter. Maybe they've realised that and want to discourage people from it to get them to shell for office365.
paint, meh.
I agree get rid of cortana, games store, windows store, forced online searches from the start menu etc. That would be better for me
Nuts , tiny thing like that ,leave it be. The first two things I add to taskbar after an install is notepad and the snipping tool. Microsoft seems intent on screwing everything up that was a decent operating system.
Yeah, what a waste of time. Considering I need to run a powershell script to uninstall as much Windows 10 guff as possible this seems beyond daft.

As mentioned, it strips all formatting.
Can't underestimate how useful that is.
Probably about the only thing they can remove without concerns that it would effect something else, Windows is well know for spaghetti code.

Unfortunate. Notepad and Paint in particular are excellent for the simple tasks they are commonly used for. I have two instances of Notepad open right now. What will we be left with for text editing on (likely corporate) computers that uninstall Notepad and don't install something to replace it? copy con?
I agree with ik9000, all of those items (and Candy Crush) would be preferable to remove to any of these three.
Don't make Steps Recorder optionally! Cause that means IT departments that like to lock down systems and don't let people install anything on their computer will take away one of the most valuable tools for helping when external clients raise bugs.
The fact it was standard in Windows since Win 7 has made things easier for issue investigation for me.
This is not good for my work, as my IT dept won't allow any other programs to be installed. I use notepad (to clear formatting when copying some text etc.) and Paint (to highlight and add text on screenshot - not a fan of the option on Snipping Tool). I'm not allowed to use half of the tools to make my work easier already... this will make it far worse.... unless of course there's an alt version for Paint in Win10 (apparently the upgrade from Win7 will be coming at some point this year).

I regularly use Paint and Notepad. Pretty much most days, actually.
