Beijing is looking to replace all foreign software and computers in government offices and public institutions within 3 years
But if the UK government had have excluded Huawei from our 5G network then Beijing claimed it would be an 'outrage'. Hmmm, pot kettle black comes to mind.

It's only western culture that is caught up with being fair. China knows that, and exploits it fully. They have no moral high ground to fall from, whereas we run around thinking we're the pinnacle of human morality.

@Crazywhores/@Dashers, I was going to say something similar to your two comments but there's no point when you've summed it up.

You do know this affects only the government side and not the private sector? And that drive to indigenous tech was caused by the preceding American ban on sale of technology to China? If the ban extends, the government needs to be sure it can keep the lights on, and reducing reliance on a volatile outside force is just common sense.

China should be smart and SIMPLY jump to RISC-V and forget the x86/ARM bandwagon.

I have no doubt they are doing RISC-V at the same time.

LOL where do you think the Ghost s1 is made? It sure aint a backyard garage near Paris. This is a start for them, 5years time? Good enough . Could they start selling these to impoverished 3rd world and supplanting cheap Intel,Amd .. or maybe IP not fully "legit" ?

The difference is that the UK government would be ordering _private_ companies not to buy Huawei, as opposed to operating an internal policy about what equipment it buys

Governments issuing orders to privately run companies telling them what to do or buy or not buy seems to go against what you might call "open, free, competitive, democratic ideals" and more like old style USSR behaviour.
