Its a shame really that the graph is based on there release spec not the actual to the consumer, given its 2020 now and PCIe5 has yet to appear given the graph is like nailing it to 2019 where really only PCie4 hit Q3 2019 so its looking like 18 months lag behind the chart so Pcie6 looks destined for Q3/4 of 2022 so probably not take off for consumers until 2023.

I can't see 6 being implemented anytime this decade on consumer boards, 4-5 is a fairly straightforward change as 5 is basically a tweaked version of 4 (it extends 4), whereas 6 changes things pretty drastically (new signalling, new error correction, etc).

That's the point though this is a working group and its goal is to publish a usable spec. It's up to device manufacturers to implement it. The whining and crying over the slight bump in price for the x570 chipset tells you why there is a big lag between release of a spec and a real product release, customers don't what to pay for it and manufactures are only doing what they get paid for. Sure lights a fire under them when it gets going, the x570 which is now the pcie4 test chipset used by Nvidia and now even intel because it's the one and only available consumer product.
