Liked the idea of it, but not the actual experience... even with the 3 month free trial attached. But has made me appreciate the benefits of local-hardware-hosted gaming a great deal more.

Also, with several big publishers suddenly removing their games from the service, GeForce Now may become a much tougher sell over the longer term.

I signed up, had a poke around and then uninstalled it, I imagine many others have done the same so a million sign ups actually looks like a bit of a flop to me.

Despite the nay-sayers , the big teams are only exiting to sign up for a different streaming service, possibly amz-play. Its the way of the future, and local hardware will equally go the way of the D0-D0. It will still be sold, as ppl really like their hardware, but impoverished 2nd +3rd world (LDC) will take up a service like this , along with Sat internet, and PV solar. 100million in the West VS 3Billion streamers. Who's winning ? netflix ? or DVD sales.

I don't even see the value in it to begin with, but whatever... I can wait until I get home to play a PC game, that is why you buy a handheld, tablet, phone etc. You game on them while away. Again, unless you're rich, and just have money to waste, I don't see the point. If I didn't have to OWN the game, ok, I get it. I'm getting to play a group of games I don't own, running off your gpus. I see value in that, monthly new games etc for a fee, play whatever you want from the catalog (or check out X at a time, or something). But if I have to own it, I'll just play at home later and fire up some local game/app on my device for the time being. Like I said, isn't this why people buy handhelds etc?

I don't personally like the idea of cloud gaming, but that's mostly because we don't have the infrastructure in the UK for everyone who wants to enjoy it to have good enough internet - 5G onwards may change that.

But I can see the benefits - computer hardware is once again becoming very expensive with the price of high-end CPUs and GPUs particularly eye-watering. And even if I do buy it, it sits there being massively under-utilised for the majority of the time.

A better way would be to share ownership of the expensive hardware and allow someone else to make use of it when I'm sleeping, or doing work that doesn't need the full GPU power. That in essence is what cloud gives you - the providers lease in enough hardware as they need and it's shared across a wide user base. Then I wouldn't need to worry about replacing hardware every few years, I just need a lightweight browser at my end, which I could run on a years-old laptop.

Actually what you describe is kinda already an option - Shadow.tech is kinda like that. You basically get access to a full gaming PC, which you get your own full Windows 10 desktop to install whatever games you like for gaming.
