Except they were taking these measurements near the towers. Signal strength diminishes by at least the inverse square of the distance, so if the signal is weak when you are next to one tower it's not going to be much stronger if there are a few more towers further away. You get problems even 'hearing' a weak signal far away if there is a strong one closer. Its called the near far problem and one of the reasons 5g has more towers is to have have more weaker towers nearby do they don't have to have a few powerful towers that would have too high strength next to them and still have poor signal further away.Quote:

Its depressing this needs to be said. I swear everyone thinks they can read any old garbage on the internet and suddenly they are an expert. People used to believe going more than 10 Mph meant you couldn't breath!
Back on the subject I'm still waiting for a decent 4G signal in my small town - I'm happy for you to install 5G in my area!

From the number of mobile phone zombies I see zerging erratically along the paths whilst staring at the latest kitten video on their smartphone I sometimes wonder if dropping back to 2G might force people to actually look where they are going and could prevent accidents.
Although if the phone was capable of informing the user that they are wandering onto a road or cycle path I suppose that would help. If it could also tell them to choose a bleeding side of the path and stick to it so other pedestrians can get past, preferably adding that flailing their arms around in animated conversation in a crowded area isn't making them friends either.
