There are plenty of electronic components (and ICs) based on non-silicon semiconductor materials, such as GaAs (gallium arsenide), and this has been the case for a long time - but I would guess Si is still more economical for many components where the performance characteristics are acceptable.

To be very pedantic, no transistors are made of silicone, that being a polymer consisting of silicon and oxygen amongst other things. The appended 'e' makes a big difference.

It's a very common misspelling given silicone is probably the more commonly-heard word.
