Also, is the keyboard totally flat against the surface it's on? No potential for angling or a wrist rest by the looks of things? For £300 and for something that's the price of a desktop replacement, I'd really expect a more functional looking keyboard. It looks nice and I'm sure it's fine for the odd thing but prolonged typing requires a set of important ergonomic considerations, none of which appear present here. The screen appears to be angle adjusted, not the keyboard.

1mm travel is an acceptable trade off for a laptop but that stand does not look like it's designed to travel, but serve as the base station and then you take the tablet off it as required.

Gonna guess Apple won't be happy if you get a proper keyboard and mouse and a third party stand that does the job better for half the money, right?

Re: Apple updates iPad Pro with A12Z Bionic chip, LiDAR scanner

I just find it funny that they just seem to be turning the iPad, the device that would supposedly kill PC's, into what is essentially a pc (laptop), just more restrictions in place than what MS tried with windows RT/S (or whatever it was called) and nobody seems to be batting an eyelid...

Also got to laugh at the clearly Apple biased tech websites saying the new items are the best things since sliced bread when all most people are seeing are the ludicrous price for the keyboard and very little else being changed...

They kind of are, but they are only going half way. As has been typical with Apple for many, many years now - they are making some brilliant hardware but the software just lets it down. iOS is a brilliant touch only mobile OS, but it's terrible for productivity/office work/laptop style work. Windows is the exact opposite - terrible as touch only/mobile but brilliant for productivity. An iPad cannot replace your PC without a lot of extra hassle/effort and compromise.

Apple have a great option they could have taken - simply add touch support to MacOS and merge the two, kind of like what Google have done with ChromeOS (but unlike ChromeOS, wouldn't be totally useless). They still refuse to take that leap though.

To be fair there's a side of me which is thinking Apple is playing the 'long game' here with iOS and will eventually just ditch 'pc' devices like the imac, they'll basically have all their users 'tied into' (forced from some perspectives) their hardware, which with their own cpu etc, needing to buy via their store (which Apple then net 30% iirc) and can basically only use the device how Apple wants, so no 'illegal' or open source software/media, no access to anything they don't want you to use etc... ironically all very orwellian considering their use of the theme in their 1984 mac advert.

Just think how some people are now with Apple stuff, they're literally 'sheep' as some like to say who will buy the latest version iOS device no matter what etc... we can already see how little the 'professional' earns them, same for desktop/laptops etc, when you see reports that 90+% of their profits come from iOS and it's add ons etc.

The Magic Keyboard for iPad Pro will be available for purchase in May for £299 for the 11-inch iPad Pro and £349 for the 12.9-inch iPad Pro.
Sheesh, that's more expensive than my Razer keyboard
