Or vice versa?
No..
Nope never, but I am interested in consoles in the way as they will determine alot in what the game standards is going to be like, and that maybe finally being able ot utilize my system proper...
Will never switch from PC gaming, as expensive as it can get. Many more games available and I like being able to mod some. i would like a few of the console exclusives but no matter how many exclusives are released they will many make me switch from my PC
Well considering XBOX Live services went down today, and Sony isn't perfect, I think I'd rather not consider it. At least all I have to concern myself with is the broadband going down, plenty of different services to choose from that decide what I play.
That's before you even get into the discussion about which is better in terms of hardware etc.
Too early to say, currently. It depends upon the price and performance of the next generation of GPUs. If they're ridiculously priced compared to the consoles then I'll switch to console gaming and use my PC mainly for browsing and encoding video.
Already mostly done it. Use PC for Simulators and pointy-clicky manager things. But the Xbox One X gets everything else.
PC gaming just got stupid expensive.
No.
To address the opening question, I have even less time for gaming now.
But aside from the fact that I absolutely detest console controllers... a console doesn't do what my PC does, for the most part, and the very few things it can do besides run a game or play a film, it doesn't do as well or in the same way that my PC does.
A console, as designed, is a gaming & entertainment machine for those living in limited space accomodation, or for young men with disposable income.
Either way, I much prefer my PC.
To switch from PC to console? Absolutely not, as a PC just has so many other uses along with the gaming, especially with my upgrade to the Ryzen 9 3950X not so long ago.
I specifically chose to skip the PS4/Xbox One generation as I found myself barely playing many games during the PS3/Xbox 360 generation, and the fact that PC allows much more variety to games by way of mods that can extend them in new ways.
Of course, I can't say I've exactly played much on PC during the current console generation, but I still have the option for the forseeable future to do so with the many games in my Steam library (along with the aforementioned potential mods), which can't always be said for earlier consoles' games on following consoles without having to buy them again in another format (admittedly there may be a form of that on PCs in terms of OS support, but there are probably workarounds in most cases in which that issue can be resolved).
I am however considering the possibility of adding one of the upcoming consoles for the ability to play platform-exclusives that don't/won't make their way to PC.
I don't plan to, but I'm also not ruling it out. My 970 could do with an update to a 3000 series GPU or AMD equivalent if they improve driver issues is an option, or I could just buy a console for the same price and pick up any missed games. There's pros and cons to both options.
Need to be tempted to start gaming first .... which i'm not.
Can't say I am in all in honesty when it comes to the main consoles...
I'd basically be after an xbox if I did and from what I can see MS (and sony to some extent) wants to put console games on pc's too so I suppose I'd just need a controller if they follow through.
Having said that I do kind of see consoles as a viable 'media pc' for streaming and plex etc so if they brought out a version, even if linked to xbox clooud, which can still do plex and stream for a reasonable price I might be tempted...
No..
When the new consoles come out I might get one for AAA games but PC always for indie games
Maybe not the current ones but the ones after them, especially if GPU prices keep their upward spiral, but I would still keep my PC for legacy games and games I like modding.
I'm a traditional PC gamer but I also go Nintendo secondarily for their first party offerings. My PC is now 10 years old and I did look at building a new PC right when the RAM prices started going up and graphics cards were being gobbled up by miners so I decided to get a Switch and save some money instead. I can't remember the last time I played a game on my PC so my Switch is now my primary platform.
Will the XBOX99 or PS1000 be a viable WFH slim client?
it took me bally years to start gaming on the hated "pee-cee" back in the 90`s.
have been building my own gaming rigs ever since then.
i`m not going to change back again just as i`m starting to get the hang of it, dammit!
I'll always have a pc. But for gaming it's not keeping up (i7 950, 780ti) and I can't afford to upgrade. So the potential value of the next gen consoles along with most of my friends being on console is tempting me.
I've tried consoles that belonged to friends or family a number of times in the past, but I've never enjoyed using the controllers. I just find them awkward and just generally poor compared to keyboard and mouse, so unless consoles allowed keyboard/mouse for every game in the future, I see no reason to switch.
Get rid of the pr0n box for a gaming box?
Never.
Probably stay PC, I don't game much these days and build a powerful PC for productivity so its just spending a little extra on a GPU than is needed and I have a gaming PC too. Past that I am not fussed with new releases and just pick up older games really cheaply which is easier on PC.
With that for the first time since the 360 we are seeing a console which will perform as well as an absolute top end pc which will make it more tempting, the X1 and PS4 didn't beat mid range PC's when they came out.
with a £500 tag for a mid range graphics card alone, a mass exodus to the console gaming is inevitable.
I'm lucky, I do both.
I do both now as well and once trying the console, I have realised that it's got its advantages. It isn't half as bad as I thought it would be so as much as I like pc gaming, i won't spend £500 for a gpu also won't accept 'going used' or low end. I can afford any gpu but won't pay as much as Nvidia (or Amd) demand. I have got vega 56 and that might be my last ever dedicated graphics i bought, they can get stuffed.
For a great many reasons I have no temptation to switch to console. A few of them are:
- I hate console controllers, finding them difficult and sometimes painful to use
- I don't want to game on the sofa
- I like my multi-monitor rig
- I'd still need a fairly powerful PC for everything else
- I like messing with PC hardware
Not in a millions years....
Err NO.
That's a definite no.
(3500 hours clocked up on Black Desert Online now! Addictive? Definitely..)
Haha missed first of april for this one.
no
can a console let me use several screens, 1 huge screen,do some proper pornhub browsing ? :P
"Are you tempted to switch from PC to console gaming?"
Not really, but then again i've changed from PC-only to PC AND console of late (Hello Switch :) )
That said given the choice i will almost always opt for PC over consoles with games, doubly so if mods are an option.
As for the future i'll probably be the same, but the new SSDs in the consoles and the way they're planning on utilizing them looks very interesting. So i'll have to wait and see on that. It'll make a nice change having the consoles not holding back multiplatform games by having to cater for extremely slow HDD storage in any case...
I've built my own PC's since Dos days. I've had a couple of consoles but lack of keyboard and mouse always meant I went back to the PC. I've just finished a Ryzen 3700X build with an RTX2070 Super so I think I'll just stick with the PC :D
Already in the process of doing it. It is just way to expensive to keep up with PC gaming now from components to screens and not forgetting the overly toxic multiplayer communities (yeah you get them on console but PC is far worse)
I do still buy and play older stuff on PC from GOG and have stuff like Skyrim which never gets old (also have the controller mod installed for Oblivion so can play that sitting back). In those circumstances I have the game shortcuts in Steam for GOG titles that can be played with a controller and then use either my Steam link on the 3rd floor or Steam app on my TV to play them from the comfort of the couch.
I do have a PS4 Pro & XBox One X attached to my 4K TV and have mainly been playing on the XBox since before Christmas as I prefer the controller. I do play on PS4 also but I did cancel plus given I have Game Pass Ultimate for the 1X
It is not expensive it is rated to much up in price for PC items... I remember the price of a Voodoo II 3D accelerator paired with my Matrox G200.... was in no way expensive and top of the line GFX at the current point.
Team Green, Red, Blue.... get it together, make quality again at affordable prices.... could get the money back if it was all mainstream.
Hell NO
Nope
An RTX2080TI is not pricey? WTF?? All the people I know laughed at the price and said no,even if they could afford to buy two a year.
Plus you have just proven the point Ferral made too. The GTX780 and GTX980 RRPs were far lower than an RTX2080TI. The GTX1080TI was nearly half the price to two-thirds the price of the RTX2080TI.
Stupid pricing of the RTX2080TI,pushed mainstream GPUs upto $350 now, with the RTX2060.Before Turing market research firms pointed out that midrange was sub $300 - its risen.
Also according to JPR and Mercury Research anything over $300~$350 is enthusiast.
Your RTX2080TI cost more than my entire PC spend for the last 5 years including graphics cards, and that included replacing a platform which was coming to its 7th year and started to have reliability problems. If that is not pricey well I am screwed.
Edit!!
Better still - I looked at the RRPs,of the GTX780,GTX980 and RTX2080TI - at RRP,that is over £2000 just on GPUs in under 7 years.
That is nearly £300 a year,at official RRP prices. Everything else is fine on PC,modern GPUs are a blooming ripoff. Not shocking as Nvidia is now making net and gross margins close to that of the mining era again....without the mining.
I hope RDNA2 is actually good and AMD decides to do a Ryzen moment, because if it isn't the RTX3080TI will be close to £2000,and everything else will be pushed up in price. Soon an RTX3060 will be £400 and the RTX4060 even more. I will be stuck with an RTX3040 at this rate. I can enjoy low raytracing at 480p upscaled to 1440p- it will be glorious! I will probably be a no-choice Retro gamer it appears! GOG here I come!
;)
No, big fan of Steam and need to play Half Life!
No,
Because I already use and regularly play games on PC, PS4 Pro, PS3 and Xbox One X.
And yes I will be getting a PS5, not sure about the Xbox SX yet.
Probably. I got into pc gaming first but buy the sony consoles for the exclusives but feel like as time goes by I have less of a reason to maintain a gaming pc. I feel like nvidia has ruined pc gaming for many. They keep introducing pointless things like rtx to just tank everyone's performance and justify absurd gpu pricing.
I'm fine gaming on my PC.
I prefer a keyboard and mouse, this may well be down to being left handed though.
Why reduce my choice to a single type of system? I have a gaming PC and several consoles.
AMD will also tag along though, because if the market indicates its tolerant of the pricing, that is what is going to happen. They will just price slightly lower than Nvidia, but be close in pricing .I hope AMD is feeling generous in the future otherwise its going to get pricier!
The new consoles will drive down the cost of PC gaming as Nvidia and AMD will no longer be able to charge such large amounts for their cards. GPU prices will gradually creep up again in a few years until it's time for the next console in 2027 or so.
No I'm not, simply put, console games are too expensive negating whatever apparent financial sense it makes, while having a really cut down selection of games compared to PC, and not being able to do much else besides gaming.
I own and game on both PC and PS4 Pro, why limit yourself to just one format when both can be enjoyed.
You could... DO BOTH!! Imagine that.
I have both but the older i get the less i seem to play games on any platform , I suppose its just down to not having the time anymore.
Oldie, but a goodie:

As one who has never had a console, the attraction of the XBOX in its latest incarnation is just too good to miss. I've used Windows and Macs for games and certainly the MS Windows PC is well supplied with games. However as someone who needs a workhorse that is pleasant to operate the Mac wins hands down. Both however suffer expensive upgrade paths and despite my working hardware, OS upgrades force my hand to consider upgrading yet again.
When the consoles are finally released, price is an important factor and the range of games too. I'm particularly interested in seeing the forthcoming Microsoft Flight Simulator run on the Xbox and with its projected specification it just might suit me.
With all that processing power its a pity that these consoles can't also function as a general purpose PC, but I suppose that would be asking too much?
Never going to happen. I have tried out consoles with a Gamecube, PS2 & Xbox360 I always returned to my PC roots starting with the 486 back in the late 80's.
For some games, yes. But in general no.
Yes, a little. Unfortunately i don't have much time to play recently, so.
At the moment, the opposite direction and thinking of delving back into PC gaming - the last time I had a windows based PC was 10 years ago.
"Switching" is a tiny bit misleading as I will still keep playing certain games on my PS4 Pro and Switch.
Never! I will always have a powerful PC at home because I enjoy building it and uprgading it and tinkering to no end. I also work on my main desktop, I game, consume media. My main entertainment hub has long shifted to my home office from my living room, even though I have a respectable home theater setup. To the point where only the audio gear on my PC desk is now north of 2K€ and counting. But I am no console hater, and I will probably end up getting one of the new consoles, as I've always done, and end up not using it at all. The nVidia Shield takes care of my media client needs in the living room, and I have a NAS setup with an old Q6600 I had lying around. And the truth is that gaming will always be better on the PC - if you can afford it.
Nope. The core of my gaming is strategy, and there are way too many good strategy games on PC, but not on consoles, for it to make sense switching.
Not a chance.
I play on both. Mainly PC but some games on PS4.
Pretty much made the switch to console (currently PS4 Pro) 10 years ago. I spend all day fixing other peoples PCs, Macs and servers. When I get home, I want to sit on the sofa and 'shoot aliens' to de-stress, rather than spend a few more hours chasing drivers, updates and software clashes.
To be fair I end up building a 'game ready' PC about every 5 years or so but invariably the game it ends up being used for is hobbyist hardware and software development.
I would never have considered a switch to console from PC but this time around I feel GPU hardware is now so overpriced for any kind of tangible performance gain I'm simply not prepared to pay Nvidia's ludicrous margins and retailer supply shortages (to control price) to satisfy its shareholders. If you want to game at 1080p ok sure there are plenty of sensible options around, but having owned and use for work a 4k monitor for almost 5yrs now and wanting to play around with VR it really irks me that we are being denied decent graphics horsepower for a sensible price. As far as I'm concerned there has been no real terms gains for over 4yrs that doesnt come with a crazy price attached.
LOL what kind of question is that? Obviously no.
What I find pretty encouraging is that I can play Division 2 (ie fairly recent release) on my i7 3950K, 16 GB ram and 750ti with no noticeable lag or terrible FX.
Much as I'd like the FX to be shinier, my game-crazy teenage sons think it looks the business. They play Warframe, WOT, Apex Legends etc.
No need (yet) for 2080s or anywhere in the foreseeable future.
