I can believe that these will last that long. I use small battery powered devices with ~7-15uA current draw and we're projecting ~15 years out of them.

Oh great I don't want this. I don't want embedded chips with their own ability to phone home. It should be my choice if I want my white goods to talk to anything, not the manufacturer's ability to see how and when I use them - or to bork the firmware when they think they want me to have to buy another.

And there I was thinking foil around the drier. I don't want a smart meter because of this kind of monitoring of my life. My other reason being the lack of standardisation. I'm not having one meter fitted to find that the next company I move to badgers me to fit their own breed of meter.

I would also like WiFi to work in my kitchen on my terms for the devices I want it to. The answer is a lead lined utility bunker it would seem

Or just open up every appliance you buy, find the Qualcomm chip and short the antenna pins. AKA sticking your soldering iron up their RF back end.

Tempting ... but you'd probably invalidate the warranty on your new £1000 fan y freezer.

Needless to say, I'm wholly averse to almost every aspect of the IoT.
