Performance Vs price is never a linear relationship at the high end. That's what the mid range is competing on. This is competing on being the absolute best currently available and the only competition is itself.

Aye the fact that this still tops a grand whilst we're awaiting a new series of cards is kind of annoying. But.... they will charge what the market will bear and it's apparent that people will buy these cards at this price. Or they wouldn't be producing them.

Preorder up on CCL has it at £1300 with the Gaming X at £1220.

They're both ridiculous but it's not anywhere near the most expensive 2080ti and it's probably quickest.

I don't think it's anything like that cheap for the GPU. Maybe minus the GPU and RAM chips the board may cost £100 in parts. Regardless, taking the BOM and excluding the R&D costs as well as all the other expenses such as technical support (for the board building from Nvidia and from the TP manufacturer to consumers and system integrators) is unfair. Is over a grand a silly price paid by a silly person? Yes but clearly there are silly people around.

I doubt it's THAT low, especially once you factor in all the R&D, fab related costs (Nvidia outsource production remember), manufacture, distribution and then that fluffiness called marketing.
It does all add up, but I do take your point. There are significant cash markup on these, especially with no viable competitor in the high performance market.

More likely this has been released as a stopgap because they cannot bring the next model to market quite yet and with AMD known to be readying the release of their next models. I doubt that this Covid situation has helped particularly either...
