I really do like them and they are desirable. But I've said it before and I'll keep saying it. Apple treated me like absolute scum when I had an issue with a machine costing over a grand and their Apple care warranty. I went into their shop to address the issue and the guy told me that the faulty part and proof of purchase wasn't good enough and I had to bring in the whole laptop (with serial number) for them to even talk to me. He then turned away and walked off after about 20 seconds of talking to me. Their online customer service never responded to my email.
I'd accept that if I'd bought a cheapo machine like an EeePC or something where costs were cut all over the place. I had splashed out on a very expensive bit of hardware complete with extended warranty. And they made it a pain in the rear to get a simple, faulty PSU changed.
When you're spending, in this case, £1300, it becomes an amount of cash where risk comes into play. I will not risk, given Apple's conduct in the past and how they treated me in person, that much money to a company which doesn't want to know when it goes wrong.
The guy who shunned me had just looked up the last customer's details and so on using the iPad in his hand. He could easily have confirmed everything right down to the card used to pay but he just basically told me "screw you".
So, I'm sorry Apple. I don't care how great your products are. I love your fancy touchbar but it's not worth me risking thousands if you're not going to support your product and me when it all goes wrong.
Interestingly, I contacted Alfa's customer support recently and they are just helping me. It was an expensive network adapter and they're supporting it. Leatherman will often just send you a new version of the entire multitool is part of it breaks, even if it's just a simple spring. BMW are supporting cars which are around ten years old with newly discovered faulty airbags to the point where even if it's a second hand owner, they'll pay for taxis and recovery to a BMW garage for the issue to be resolved. High end, expensive brands need high end support. Apple doesn't provide that so they can sod off until they get the message. If they hadn't done this to me, I'd have bought at least one more of their expensive laptops by now and probably an iPhone as well.
All that money for a "pro" machine, and no 8 core CPU?
I think my last VM got allocated more resources than this thing comes with. And I'm a complete amateur. Anandtech described their last pro CPU AMD vs Intel review as a "bloodbath" as Intel just got crushed.Quote:

Mac and iphone sales are down a lot recently. Macs are basically back to niche devices again. Removing USB ports and other controversial ports and questionable decisions have killed the Mac as a pro computer in the eyes of many. The people I know who swear by Macs are not upgrading and are either buying cheaper more powerful Windows based products or sticking with what they have already...
1) Apple releases a pretty terrible "butterfly" keyboard. Apple fans rejoice about its "low travel" and quietness.
2) Apple releases an even worse keyboard, with even less travel, that is as close to unusable as you can get (as bad as the surface RT "touch" keyboard). Some actual backlash from fans!
3) Apple re-releases the first terrible keyboard, calls it an amazing new innovation, fans go mad, the world is right again.
Whats the betting they do a similar trick with their phone screens this year and magically find a way to make a screen without a giant hole in it. Like they did 3 years ago. I bet that will be an "amazing innovation" too.
It's sad when they make some amazing hardware and then screw it up right at the end....hole in the screen, or crippled keyboard, or no F-Keys, or removing effective bootcamp support, or removing a fingerprint reader...the list goes on. Apple used to put out a product and get it 99% right....these days, everything they do seems to have at least one major flaw.

Isn't it really because Apple did it, and therefore they want to copy some of the success? It doesn't matter that it makes for a worse product, if its popular people will buy it. Common story in tech isn't it :) A very wierd one mind since there isn't a notch/punch hole screen out there that is better to use than a "full screen" phone, and its possible to still make them - Sony are getting my business this year for example as they are the only flagship brave enough to stick with a normal full sized screen...Quote:

I know they were not the first to make the mistake, but they were the first to make it popular. As with many of their other solutions.
Yeah Sony have a rep, but if they are the only ones willing to make a usable phone, i'm willing to put up with long delays on software upgrades. It only has to last a year anyway since I expect Samsung to also resolve the hole issue with their next phone.
