What kind of deals are Intel giving them to make them choose these processors?
Seems strange.
Enough of a deal to get the contract , thats called business. Either way even if something from AMD may have been better good luck to the start up company if they succeed. Any company having some success means jobs for people at the company and componenent suppliers.
Tempted, but really, really dont need one, need to get back to work and away from the internet some days lol..
Noice! But wouldn't a Rzyen 7 4700U be cooler, faster and cheaper?
I love that it has a physical reset button, fills me with confidence!
There was a review on a last gen Ryzen laptop and they put it up against the Intel chips. It shows even latest gen Ryzen mobile chips can't offer the same battery life as Intel can.
It's possible, given the form factor, that battery life was critical.
I'm not sure this is a high profile, high numbers machine which is worthy of a bribe.

For the chip alone, probably, but GPD have been doing this a long time and well before AMD had anything to compete in the mobile space. I would expect they have a large amount of R&D and components invested in an intel-centric approach, so making a shift to AMD at this point would be hugely expensive - likely completely un-affordable.
Given though that these are clearly enthusiast machines, and Intel have upset a significant chunk of the enthusiast community in recent years, I suspect a crowd funded AMD based version would do very well.....
I do like the idea of these machines, but I don't need one
The original version of this was AMD Zen+ powered IIRC,but they changed it during development to the 10NM Intel CPU.
TBF they are comparing an 8C CPU against a 4C CPU though.
I think it is more down to support - AMD told Schenker one thing, and then did another. Companies can't plan around AMD just changing its mind about things.
I wish I had the cash to pledge on one of these!!
Currently trying to save up for some PC cooling, but silly things like birthdays and wedding anniversaries keep cropping up...
IIRC, this was originally going to be an AMD machine, but something went screwy along the way and GPD decided to drop AMD as a result.

I will need to find the link i shared from one of the last threads on this. They moved away from Ryzen embedded because apparently working with the AMD embedded division was a massive PITA. But, maybe we'll have another option in the future that isn't just enough to keep things ticking over.

I still like it though, if anyone want to donate me one i will take it and be very happy, but my own money i must get "more" out of.
