Please be more like the X-Wing/Tie fighter games of the '90s, with a fresh look and have co-op mode as Alliance did. Still have fond memories of getting PC's together to do those co-op missions.

The trailer looks great! But we all know how much EA lies about this stuff so I am going to restrain myself to mild excitement.

Despite mention of campaign this looks all about the multiplayer, so it might be fun for a quick blast but I doubt a lot more.

    Game looks amazing....
    But, EA ...

Will wait untill the reviews are in, hope the SP campain isn't a let down. But, i suspect it might be a bit of an after thought. Really hope to be proved wrong though, it really does look good!

    yup agreed. EA ...

Customisations earned only through in-game action.... For now sure. Anyone taking odds that in the first update "in response to feedback [from our shareholders] we have made it "easier" to earn rewards. By paying for them."

If they've done it well though this could be something. Doubt they will have though, so much recently has been underwhelming vs what I'd hoped for.

Single player campaign sounds interesting for me. But i can bet it will be 4h.

Re: EA Star Wars: Squadrons first person dogfight game announced

My early-to-mid 20's were spent playing all of the XWing / Tie Fighter games to death, so I'll be all over the reviews of this when it launches.

Biggest concern for me is that Frostbite's visuals are always really impressive, but the gameplay on this engine is often incredibly shallow and unengaging. Not sure if there's something inherent in the engine causing this, or just EA's lack of imagination and focus on the key gameplay mechanics.

The first EA Battlefront game also had pretty restrictive environments to fly in and just had very basic skirmishes (no real variety of mission objectives), so no real depth or replay value - just empty grinding.

The one positive is that "Command & Conquer Remastered" shows that EA can sometimes make good decisions!

The world of gaming definitely needs a bit more variety and the space fighter genre is ripe for picking, having been quite neglected since the 1990's - to the point I've been replaying FreeSpace 2 with the latest HD mods just to get a fix during lockdown. There's a whole generation of gamers that have never experienced a classic X-Wing / FreeSpace escort or recon mission that suddenly branches off in all kinds of unexpected directions... not forgetting to carefully manage the power allocated to your engines / shields / weapons as the mission's goals evolve.

Re: EA Star Wars: Squadrons first person dogfight game announced

Anyone want to take a bet on whether the frascists will make a showing for the Empire's side?

In lighter news, I feel like as much as I have enjoyed dogfighting games in the past, they feel very limited due to the limits of the craft (devolving into flying in circles chasing each other's tails), and have little by the way of long term playability. I wonder if they have anything new and interesting beside skins to keep things fresh?

That’s one reason why a strong single player campaign is crucial, gives players more variety in missions... and not just a circular dogfighting twitch fest.

You know they'll just stick a trench run in and we'll hand over the money... I bought Battlefront on the PS4 just for the VR flying

Fair point though, I bought EVE: Valkyrie and progression is just skin unlocks. Can't say I've played it more than a couple of times.

I think that was the game someone brought into work on PS VR that made me and several others go out and buy a headset (though we mostly bought Rifts). That made part of me quite excited to see this, even though I am not really a Star Wars fan.

Watching the video it looks rather like I could just fire up Elite Dangerous and drop into an asteroid belt there for a similar experience.

The space combat looks more Everspace (which was free at GoG a while back) than Elite. Which is fine for that part.
