Personally I've never had a console but I did buy two original Gameboys for my twins about 25yrs ago.
Atari VCS. Played so much River Raid I can still hear the sound of the jet fighter refueling.
I've never bought a console, closest I got was a "free" XBox360 as I'd ordered about £30k's worth of MS Licensing and I asked what free stuff I could get
It suffered from the dreaded RROD a few weeks before it ran out of warranty and MS swapped it for an Elite so I was happy all round..
Never bought one, parents gifted me and my brother an Atari 2600 with wood trim, joysticks and paddles back in the early 80's. Pacman, Yari's revenge and Asteroid were my favourites.
With my own money, the Sega Megadrive (my brother won a NES before that). Got it with a free second controller from Special Reserve in Sawbridgeworth for £189, which is £430 in todays money. Pivotal moment for me, I've had every mainstream console since (and a few more exotic ones like a PAL NEC TurboGrafx), as well as several gaming PCs.
First that I got as a present was Atari and after Super Nintendo. Then I bought Playstation (first one).
I never owned any other console. Lets see the new GPU prices, and maybe I will.
With my own money? SNES.
With my own money, Sega Master System II with Alex Kidd, I must have been about 9-10 years old!
Never owned a games console and doubt i ever will.
Only ever purchased one console and that was the Nintendo Wii. First console we owned in the family as an Intellivsion, Zaxxon and Carnival were the go to games.
I never bought one... I had an old NES I got for xmas years ago... that is the only one.
The first as a gift specifically for me was the Sega Master System II with Alex Kidd built in. I think it realy was the Alex Kidd game that made that one shine, mainly as the Megadrive was where you wanted for the superior experience for the proper Sonic games (especially Sonic 2), but also because I can't remember what other games I actually played on it.
I think the first console I bought myself was an XBOX 360, which got the RROD about a year later and got replaced/repaired as a result by Microsoft. About 2 years later I bought a PS3 and switched to that though.
I can't remember which console I had them on - it might have been both, although I suspect 360 - but the games that come to mind that made them great were Rainbow Six: Vegas, Call of Duty 2 and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.
Overall though I didn't really play many games during that generation, so it's why it led to me skipping the XBONE/PS4 generation and sticking to PC, with my Steam library growing thanks to Humble Bundles and similar that emerged.
I tried the LCARS theme on my smartphone once??
Nintendo Switch
Just a PC before.
