Do you really have to be registered to download a new nvidia driver ?

One just popped up for my laptop, so p pressed DL and dident look at it for a while, when i finally did there was some window wanting me to register, but i have not looked if that was before the DL or after.

You do if you want to use geforce experience but you can just download the drivers direct from Nvidia without logging in

Yeah i just "hammered" a little on the laptop, and when i pressed the nvidia icon on the task bar the install started, and then after that the NVIDIA experience stuff popped up again.
Clearly multitasking are not my strong side :-) the laptop just sit there using power.

will have to get a mouse for it, cuz that track pad stuff i never liked much, so probably go shopping for a new mouse tomorrow.
And soon i take the desktop apart so then only the laptop to focus on for some months.

I wonder how this will play out with AMD having the hardware aligned to the next gen consoles? Nvidia are good at getting big titles supported but they're going to have to fight to keep up that level of engagement if it's such an easy win to optimise for AMD & Xbox & ps5 in one go.

DX12 ultimate is vendor agnostic, so no reason to think nVidia can't put out something that performs well and get wins that way.

What still isn't clear to me is how AMD chips are doing their DX12 Ultimate acceleration. Is it dedicated hardware, or is it flexible compute units that can do this as well as shading?

Probably the same approach as Nvidia with raytracing on geforce 10xx series... which is essentially just using the compute units (think opencl/cuda).

Saw some benchmarks of how gpu scheduling impacts performance (www.tomshardware.com/amp/news/gpu-hardware-scheduling-tested) but it doesn't have much appreciable benefit, is this likely to change in the future?

It's more helping windows catch up to consoles in terms of how games can access the hardware. The benefit will come with future cross-platform releases.

Latest AMD Radeon Software Adrenalin 2020 Edition 20.5.1 Beta also adds Graphics Hardware Scheduling Support.

Bummer, only available on RX 5600 and RX 5700. :(

I\'ve always had my geforce drivers from nvidia, but its just lately i\'ve had to re-register.... But no worries there.

I didn\'t need to register for the studio drivers.

I don't know what AMD is doing with their drivers, Adrenalin 20.7.1 and 20.7.2 do not support it
