Strewth, the wife and I just bought a couple of phones (BT) Huawei software onboard... But I don't think we need too worry at the moment... If push-comes-to-shove we'll just get others'..

Does this have any basis past paranoia and trump?

Nope, just the usual US anti-communist paranoia and Boris Trump trying to appease Donald Trump, so he can get a bad trade deal soon.
Re: UK gov finally decides on Huawei 5G equipment ban
I've no love for China or the USA, hopefully most of the kit will be replaced by Nokia/Eriksson.
I do hope this isn't down to UK foreign policy being dictated from Washington, Johnson only needs to ask Blair how well that goes.

China is not even really fully communist,it has been a capitalist leaning dictatorship for nearly 40 years now. The only communist part seems to be the single party state! ;)

But is there anything in China truly independent of the CCP? My guess is not unless the CCP allows it to be.

Look at how they treat their people - is it a workers paradise?? No it isn't - compare it to lots of other dictatorships, where the leaders have their fingers in every pie,it sounds about right.People have to pay for most stuff out of their own pockets, which is hardly what you would expect a communist country to be like. Like I said the only communist aspect is the single ruling party in charge.
So are various ME countries communist too, when their leaders have their fingers in all aspects of the economy? What you are describing is common to every sort of single entity state. The single entity stays in power by controlling all means of production which means people keep loyal to them, and won't overthrow them.
Look at their healthcare system,a place such as Cuba is far closer to a communist ideal than China has been for decades. Then there are other "communist" countries such as Vietnam and Laos....most of the instant coffee we buy is made from Robusta beans grown in Vietnam. If we were really against communism,we wouldn't trade with Vietnam or Laos either.

Indeed. But by that measure, so is Brunei.
How the CCP treats some of it's people is .... disturbing. I can't see a Uighur Lives Matter protest march through Tianamen Square going down well. Look what happened last time.
But, geopolitically, is it viable to only do business with regimes we utterly approve of? And if not, where does the line get drawn? And who decides where it's right to draw it?

The problem I have is that the line is arbitary, and we end up criticising other countries for certain things, whilst not doing the same for certain mates. The inconsistency leads to scenario where it can be perceived as hypocritical. It also leads to a scenario, where China,Russia, etc exploit this to their own advantage. This is a problem I have, with people using moral justifications for certain actions, when realistically we should be honest and says its geopolitical.
Re: UK gov finally decides on Huawei 5G equipment ban

Re: UK gov finally decides on Huawei 5G equipment ban
By now, Denmark are a bigger success in socialism than China or any other Communist country i can think off
Here government take more and better care of its plebs, though it is getting worse every year, but so far the idiots here just gobble up the Danish way.
And also no Huawei in 5G here.
