My rx480 is still doing an ok job even with a 2k screen. Sure, I must turn down a few settings but with freesync and a driver AutoOC its fine in most titles. If I'm in no rush I can't imagine most 1070+ users are either... (I'll be sticking with AMD anyway when I do upgrade)

I have to go back quite a few,,,,, okay 3 generations to get back to a measly 650 W PSU in my system then.
Not that i have a monster PSU now, it is just 850 W, which will also be plenty for what i want to do with the computer anytime soon.

Re: Steam survey reveals why Nvidia wants GTX 10 owners to upgrade

I say, wait and see what AMD pulls out of the sleeve, games for the next couple of years will be fit to the two new consoles first of all before PC, so it is not like can it run Crysis... it will be like can it run perfectly on XBOX and Playstation, so we might not need that wide GFX to begin with for ultra quality on PC at minimum 60 FPS.

That is why he say it is safe to upgrade now from 10XX to 30XX, but wait and see... I want to see what raw power these new space heaters has without any D whatever G-Synch whatever or whatever new RTX feature or what is on.

"This statement and the new more reasonable looking pricing structure seen with the GeForce RTX 30 series of GPUs"

i'm not sure whats reasonable in selling xx70 card 500$ where it should've been the xx80, and the xx80 for 700$ where it should've been the xxxxTi and the most REASONABLE price is the 3090 for 1500$ where as Titans were for 1000k.

so are you high or something?

Looking at a 3080 to replace a 1080Ti. Will keep my 650w PSU.

PSU isn't reported in any of those - if spywarez could work out PSU then it's very clever indeed, most PSUs don't report their capacity in any kind of software - they quite literally only give juice and no info

The Steam survey seems to be dominated by laptops, given the low resolutions, core counts and Intel integrated graphics dominance.

I suspect most of those are mobile GPUs, so you can't replace them anyway.

Re: Steam survey reveals why Nvidia wants GTX 10 owners to upgrade

That survey shows most people buy cards that are £250 or less, which is why you see few turing RTX, and you aren't going to see many 3xxx cards in it until some much cheaper ones come out. Even the 3060 is likely going to be £300+ and hence too much. I am guessing at some point we'll get a 3050Ti that does 1080p with everything on (including ray tracing) @ 60fps for £200 and that will be the card that might top steam.

Re: Steam survey reveals why Nvidia wants GTX 10 owners to upgrade

I'm running a GTX980Ti. At 1080p60 it has handled everything I've needed it to with minimal quality tweaking. I tried multi-monitor gaming (I run 3x1080p & a 1280x1024) but found that while it ran smoothly enough, it was more hassle than it was worth.

In general I assume that it's not worth upgrading more often than every third generation unless something truly revolutionary comes along. The only revolution I've seen in recent years has been nVidia's pricing :-(

I'm going to wait until I've seen 3rd party benchmarks for both the 30-series and whatever AMD comes out with before I consider upgrading. TBH I'd question the wisdom of anyone who buys one of these cards in a hurry.

Or I might hold off another year and put the last of this year's money towards a 1440p monitor instead.

Something seems real off there, as I had a 1060 before moving to 4K, and it made mincemeat of 1080p. 980Ti is a 1440p, >60hz capable card.

I can see your point, but you should try and take a step back, see if you can see what Nvidua are (continually) doing.

Rather than insulting others who raise valid points and defending Nvidia.

They are STILL shifting the price brackets, each generation they've done this consecutively for generations now.

Haven’t seen anything from AMD that makes me think it is worth waiting for the new cards.
Currently running with a Ryzen 3600 and the Radeon 5700. Was hoping the red team would have something special to take nvidia down a peg like the Ryzen chips did Intel.
Not an AMD Fanboy just someone that sees the value of viable competition over token.
Just check consoles. The GPU there is IMPRESSIVE.

    750w

    https://www.nvidia.com/en-gb/geforce...ries/rtx-3080/

But there are a number of assumptions behind that recommendation.
