If Ampere comes down at anything like the price/performance nVidia are claiming, I'm not sure it matters when AMD start talking about RDNA2.

If they manage a much better performance per watt some will be interested - and the jury is still out on that

I guess this is the Reason why Jensens Nvidia guy want us to upgrade from out 10XX to 30XX at once... I am really curious what AMD has to offer now... especially since game developers work on AMD equipment in the Consoles, so well it is gonna be inherited to more hardware acceleration than being dependent on slower software?

AMD said months ago Navi would release before the launch of the consoles,so late October or early November was at least how I read the comment/

Launch doesn't mean we'll be able to buy anything... it wouldn't be the first time a 'launch' is little more than a paper one and all there is in the supply chain is a tiny number of items... AMD ryzen 3000 series springs to mind lol.

Well i am waiting to die, so why not new AMD gear too :-)
Even if i can not afford to buy any of it, or have a need to buy any of it, i still want to know.
And i have a tendency to root for the underdog, so best wished from the all AMD machine over here.

The nephew are all fired up on the new X box, i am thinking it but i will not say the kid is a embarrassment to the family, but at least like his sisters he is not a slave of that fruit company.

Seems there is a leak of Navi 22 or 23(??) card:

"The Typical XT A0 ASIC and Typical Samsung 16Gb written on the Samsung IC label for 16GB of video memory should look at the radiator. This should not be 80cu navi21."
"In addition, the video memory looks like a 3+3+2 layout and no room for 320bit.

BASICALLY AMD has ruined Ampere orders because anyone can 'simply' wait 1 month before pre-order.

If it's an engineering sample, it's possibly not reflective of the final product. Interesting about the 16GB part though, although having read what Nvidia said about memory usage on the Q&A they did on Reddit about the upcoming Ampere, even at 4K the memory usage was only about 6GB in a few scenarios.

[Justin Walker] We’re constantly analyzing memory requirements of the latest games and regularly review with game developers to understand their memory needs for current and upcoming games. The goal of 3080 is to give you great performance at up to 4k resolution with all the settings maxed out at the best possible price.

In order to do this, you need a very powerful GPU with high speed memory and enough memory to meet the needs of the games. A few examples - if you look at Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Metro Exodus, Wolfenstein Youngblood, Gears of War 5, Borderlands 3 and Red Dead Redemption 2 running on a 3080 at 4k with Max settings (including any applicable high res texture packs) and RTX On, when the game supports it, you get in the range of 60-100fps and use anywhere from 4GB to 6GB of memory.

Extra memory is always nice to have but it would increase the price of the graphics card, so we need to find the right balance.
I would have thought having faster memory and a wider bus for throughput would make more of a difference, just throwing more memory at things ends up with poorly optimised coding. Unless of course they're looking at developing something for more than just gaming scenarios, in which case, is 16GB enough?

    Don't be so cynical.

It's an announcement about the launch of the announcement of the launch.

    Obviously. Tsk.

Re: AMD announces Zen 3 and Radeon RNDA 2 launch events

AMD have often launched with more memory than Nvidia so I'm not at all surprised at a 16GB part. What makes you think it's NAVI 22 or 23 though Cat? I thought it was pretty much read that 21 will launch first by quite a way. Is it just the number of ram chips (8) hence 256bit bus?
