Facebook announces the Oculus Quest 2 next gen AiO VR solution

And it says it won't be making any more PC-only headsets like the Rift S from now on.

NO... no way I'd be letting something like this into my house that is forcing a facebook login, same goes for the 'smart glasses' they showed off which I'm sure would be happily sucking up all that extra information for facebook to sell.

Same here. Love the price and capabilities, but a Facebook login? No thanks. Which is a shame because VR has the potential to be great. Facebook involvement? Not so great. I thought that at the time they bought it and now it's just playing out as I thought it would.

And yes, if you go looking, I did/do have a Facebook page (Mainly because the wife kept tagging me in photos and hated having to type my e-mail address rather than my name). But the last time I used it or logged into it? That was years ago, literally.

I get the sentiment guys, but you do know facebook tracks you through other means whether you have an account or not. See https://www.indy100.com/article/data-facebook-has-on-you-even-if-you-dont-have-account-mark-zuckerberg-8316786

It's depressing how hard it is to be anonymous online nowadays.

I was thinking of getting a VR headset soon but Splinter Cell will be an Oculus exclusive too now. This kind of exclusive crap has completely put me off VR. Why would I spend so much money on a headset when I can't even play the few VR games available. Until VR reaches an open standard I'm not gonna be buying. And no chance that will be Oculus either.

That maybe the case but I am definitely not signing up to Facebook just to use Oculus, because of this issue just sold my Oculus and looking elsewhere

Re: Facebook announces the Oculus Quest 2 next gen AiO VR solution

The only thing I'm unsure of is whether I detest Facebook more than Google, or the other way round. Should I ever be granted three wishes, the first is likely to involve an extremely cose-range encounrer between everything FB & G, and the event horizon of a Black hole .... from the inside.

Occulus VR gear? Probably not for me, even when independent, but now? Not a snowball's chance in hell, though for different reasons than before.

Still waiting for a nice company to release a high quality headset that's standalone and PCVR. I think that would be enough to convince me to buy

Re: Facebook announces the Oculus Quest 2 next gen AiO VR solution

Surely if its a problem just use a facebook burner account.

On the hardware front this makes sense, if how cheap and light the extra parts are for the quest it makes sense to just make the one headset to fit both. As a CV1 owner the quest 2 looks great and thinking I can still use the horse power of my PC the ultimate experience knowing I can detach and play lighter experiences with more space in the garden.

my sentiments exactly. I knew someone who worked for fb in a legal capacity. TLDR The horror. They moved to a better company as soon as the right post came available.

Re: Facebook announces the Oculus Quest 2 next gen AiO VR solution

Love my Oculus Rift S but not a big fan of the recent changes. Think it may be time to put it on Ebay and use whatever it fetches towards one of its competitors.
It may be nice and not ready for primetime but the kids and I really do love VR games.
