Unfortunately I think unless they have something really special in the works AMD might as well raise the white flag now.

Re: Nvidia shares GeForce RTX 3080 Doom Eternal gameplay video

Given the 'apparent' power of the new graphics cards...A more graphically taxing game could've been used.
    Control, or something similar.
Doom Eternal isn't exactly cutting edge.
Guess we will have to wait for some decent independent reviewers when the cards are eventually released from Nvidia NDA's.

I suspect the main point was to show the new cards aren't only fast with ray tracing/DLSS turned on.

Nvidia hasn't hyped a GPU launch like this for years.

Stable driver vs alpha driver for the prerelease card, nothing more than that. The 2080TI isn't going to suddenly gain significant performance with a new driver version.

Re: Nvidia shares GeForce RTX 3080 Doom Eternal gameplay video

All these 'RTX' titles bother me. I'm AMD guy i'll admit it - I like buy every 3 or 4 years and AMD stuff just ages better. I'm looking to go 6600 (or whatever the next gen 5600 is) but am I going to miss out on Ray tracing because everyone has implemented RTX support over Direct 12.2 ray tracing? If so that would be really annoying. Its this sort of tech lock ins that really annoy me and Nvidia have a history of encouraging it.

Re: Nvidia shares GeForce RTX 3080 Doom Eternal gameplay video

Well they show us the only actual working and optimized engine for stuff in modern age, can we get a FPS counter in 4K on other AAA titles... I like to see how it handles on other engines as well, to be able to judge.

I remember that AMD also showcased Doom running on their at that secret brand quite some years ago... maybe it is the same thing... that nvidia is a leap behind and AMD this time is gonna run with the prize?

You shouldn't do. The underlying calls are using a common MS standard rather than being something Nvidia invented so I think we'll only have to worry about two scenarios: 1) a driver/vendor block. This would be incredibly mean and I hope developers would get called on it. However they might try to justify it as: 2) performance being tuned to fit RTX's particular way of accelerating these features.

2 is much more likely, at least in the short term. Now that AMD hardware is in dev hands though I think the situation will stop, and indeed, might reverse if devs code for the AMD approach in consoles.

But we'll have to see. Cyberpunk 2077 is going to be a good indicator.

A good indicator would be that developers of games would build around AMD, as that is what there is in the consoles, at least for a while, XBOX is Microsoft, Microsoft is Direct X, I doubt they are going to damage their own brand.

Perhaps they didn't want to give away how the next generation drivers artificially cripple the performance in last gen cards just yet
