Anyone competent at microsoft seems to have left a long time ago. Have you seen the farce of office 365 recently? Laggy as hell and seemingly no urgency or even desire to fix bugs, but they'll force new and unwanted "features" down your throat.
Re: Microsoft to buy Bethesda Softworks owner for $7.5bn
Will be interesting to see how Sony respond to this, as it definitely gives Microsoft more of a say in which titles will become exclusives in the future.
I say exclusives, but it's a win-win for gamers in general if Microosft continue to push titles towards PC too.

I'm sure there are other things too but I hope MS don't see windows as a subscription service....
Satya Nadella certainly seems to be pushing Microsoft more towards an over-arching approach in cloud services and enterprise. I'm guessing he's looking a long way forward, especially towards being hardware agnostic in the approach with the exception of Microsoft Surface and XBox hardware, but far less reliant on the latter.

Thats true, but i think Microsoft would be open to owners of that fruit brand gadgets could come to their service, the fruit brand more seem to me to just want to lock their users into their own little universe and then milk them for all they are worth.
Apple and MS are taking two very different approaches but ultimately they're after the same thing... recurring 'monthly' payments...I personally think one is doing it in a more 'ethical' way of course.
IMO MS are more focused on business with things filtering down into consumers on ALL platforms while Apple is basically hoping they can lock users in and milk every iOS user for subscription services and doing everything they can to restrict/prevent 'better' options...not to mention being the only option for a payment processors and charging 30% fee for it (most banks are around 5% for reference)...

To be honest, I've always felt MS look quite a way 'into the future' when it comes to the stuff they do, they were well ahead of the curve when it came to 'smartphones' and the same goes for 'tablet pc's', the issue has really been about (not sure this is the right choice of word) implementation. Essentially they have a 'good idea' but fail to capitalise on it by not 'finishing it' before release or 'resting on their laurels' and while they still have this issue even now they do seem to be better with Satya Nadella (and Panos Panay being there hasn't hurt either imo) running things.
Re: Microsoft to buy Bethesda Softworks owner for $7.5bn
Definitely makes game pass a lot more appealing with the library expanded. I wonder how long they’ll keep the promotional price on PC going, as it’s really becoming a no-brainier.
They’re making some really pro consumer moves when it comes to exclusives and cross play, I hope they keep that up.

My thoughts exactly on seeing this headline. There goes the free mods for the next single player elder scrolls title. If there even is one now.
Re: Microsoft to buy Bethesda Softworks owner for $7.5bn
Pretty close to console release time to be doing this. Like the switch rolling out endless ports of old games, it seems like MS will be selling on "old games on subscription". Not for me.
Re: Microsoft to buy Bethesda Softworks owner for $7.5bn
I think Windows 10 will be free as long as you already have windows 10 or you buy a new device with Windows 10 - like iOS is free, its the gateway into their subscription services their strategy with Windows is to get it on as many devices as possible and the best way to do that is to make it free.

1. Does anybody remember Nokia\'s acquisition and destruction by MS?
2. Does anybody realize that creativity and novelty in the game industry comes from small independent firms and not from monstrous agglomerates like MS?

Look what happened with the movie industry or other mega organisations. Monopoly is what it's all about.
Re: Microsoft to buy Bethesda Softworks owner for $7.5bn
Not great news for Sony, but for PC gamers I think this will end up a good thing. I almost bought a console just to get access to better driving games but in the end MS started releasing Forza on the PC and they're some of the games I play the most.
Bethesda games have improved massively in quality control in recent times, but I can imagine MS would only improve this further - TESVI might become something really special with a bit more budget and polish thrown its way.
MS ought to buy Frontier next ;)

Mind you I'll just likely switch to linux if it comes to it, already been using programs that are 'cross platform' so...
Could do that but yes subscription is going to happen
A few years ago it look very likely, not so much now. Apple don't charge for updates, nor do Android, I think Microsoft realised this.
Get people into the platform first, them extort them. This is why most games they make are multiplat, it's all about amount of users, making much, much more, from a very small portion of that user base.
Occasionally real content, which appeals to the masses, to reinvigorate.
Games are nothing more than store fronts within storefronts (so to speak).

Even the Surface too, Cloud Computing, it isn't just Xbox which is going this way, while I adjust my tinfoil hat, think about how much easier it is for the US to access your data then (it's already extremely easy and they do).
But more so, it's about profit and control, all companies have been pushing for the last 2 decades for this, the tech was their in the first.

Or Bethesda.
They were already one of the risk adverse big software houses. This isn't like Mojang where they picked up someone who'd done something brave and new, Bethesdas output is Elder Scrolls and Fallout sequels. Id's is Doom sequels, Machine Games is Wolfenstein sequels, Tangos only released games were both The Evil Within. Only Arkane has done anything more than sequels to one IP under Bethesda/Zenimax.

I'm talking about released products. Games in development can be cancelled or drastically changed.
